Really good gumbo, reasonable prices, very good service..
Like every other place we have tried on The Strand in Galveston we were very happy and pleased with the food and service.
Gumbo Bar is small with tables outside, a bar and a long booth bench with tables and chairs. The place is like most on The Strand with a wonderful eclectic mixture of old and new.
The menu is simple and gumbo and po boys are the main stays. The nice thing is that only the roux is made ahead so they finish the gumbo to your order.
The gumbo comes in two sizes and unles you have a huge appetite, the smaller bowl is sufficient. That means 16 ounces of gumbo. The big bowl is 32 ounces and that is a lot of food!
I will say one last time, eat on the strand versus the sea wall, the food is local, fresh and none of the average boring chain food.
