Superb food!. Jeannine's is a smallish, intimate restaurant where apparently there are "regulars." The menu is interesting, delicious. The portions are European size -- not the gourmand portions you get elsewhere. Food is cooked to order, so if you can't wait or don't like to wait, please don't come here! Service was great; water glass replenished without asking. Desserts to die for! Down sides: not enough parking, acoustics need to be improved as it's loud inside, making conversation a challenge. Love this place!

Don't miss this place!. The mussels are the best I've ever had and that includes the restaurants previous incarnation--Montrose Grill.

Don't stop at the mussels, even mudane sounding things like their chicken sandwich are outstanding. Their daily lunch specials are a bargain.

Words don't do it justice-- try it.

Citysearch Editorial Review. The Houston mussel wars began when the former couple behind Café Montrose split to pursue their own personal and professional lives. Chef Andrew Klarman is bringing his dogs to the fight with Jeannine's and a menu similar to that at his former establishment. While items like salad nicoise, chicken a la reine, and a seafood omelet please French palates, the specialty is mussels--specifically mussels mariniere. Plump, astonishingly large bivalves swim in a white-wine broth, celery and onions, perfect for dipping French rolls and the super crispy pommes frites. The tiny, eight-table room is dark and refined, which may explain the slightly older clientele, but you'll feel perfectly cozy in the light of a flickering Chimay candle.

Best place for Belgian food. Cozy setting, nice atmosphere and good food.
