Beans, beans they’re good for the heart, the more you eat… the more you would probably enjoy the cuisine at Cuchara. The new Mexico City-inspired bistro on Fairview and Taft serves up traditional interior Mexican treats like cordero con chile y aguacate (or lamb with chile and avocado for you anglos). It's Mexican, not Tex-Mex, folks, so don't expect a heaping basket of chips and salsa upon being seated. Do expect to be surrounded by murals by artist Cecelia Beaven that evoke Old Mexico City and plenty of natural light from large street-facing windows.

Excellently curated cocktails by Chris Frankel of Anvil and jazzed up traditional Mexico City cuisine. The quesadillas de cuitlacoche are a must and the yellow corn purée is just dreamy.

Gorgeous murals are the centerpiece of this modern, artsy, Mexican neighborhood bistro. Get the mula de nopal and the mixiotes de camaron. Drinks are fab, get the Paloma.

Great Veracruz style Mexican with fantastic cocktails. Get the Charlie's Devil to drink, and anything to eat. It's all great; don't skip dessert.
