El Gran Malo translates to "The Big Bad" and with a long list of infused tequilas, the "big bad" they're referring to is a hangover (if you're not careful). The experimental menu and well-crafted tequilas are turning El Gran Malo into one of the most-talked about restaurants in Houston. Try the chicken tinga tacos with pumpkin seeds, shaved cabbage, lemon, and cilantro. They are big and the opposite of bad.

My new favorite restaraunt!!.
Man- this place is awesome. The atmosphere is fun and comfortable, the music is great, and the food/margaritas are dang good. They have tons of differently flavored tequilas to make into your very own personalized margarita. The food is not your typical Mexican fare- it's more like "Houston-Mex" with their tortas being more like burgers. The fish and shrimp tacos are *awesome*! The margaritas are pricey and consist nothing more than the tequila of your choice and a squirt of extremely sour lime juice concoction- if that's your "cup of tea" then here's your place! Personally I feel like their juice concoction is a bit too bitter and overshadows the flavors of the margarita sometimes (especially the watermelon flavored one).
The only major downfalls is that it's usually extremely busy, and there isn't a waiting list to be seated. I felt like a vulture trying to track down a table that looked like they were about to complete their meal. At least some sort of LIST would be extremely helpful!!
All and all- I totally <3 this place. If you haven't been- get over there! But be prepared to have your teeth out to get a table!
