Houston >Bistro Catron
First, before you get snowballed into this "amazing" dining experience, notice that I think these reviews were written by owners, owner's friends/family or employees. You can check out same people leaving reviews on Urbanspooners website too. Just listen to the wording ...except the Groupon one.
Speaking of Groupon, that's where we got our incentive to try this place out. We had seen it and were interested. We TRIED to go last Sunday (10-10) and it was a disaster. We left before anything could ruin our family day. Here goes.....
We pulled up and patio was a disaster. Not an indicator of the food, but something I noticed. Definitely doesn't help with first impressions. We went in and were seated at a table. Needed a high chair for 1 yr old and hostess brought one out that was missing a piece at the bottom and was coming apart at the top. Got a new one and waited to be greeted. And waited. And waited...Noticed when we walked in that there were a few other tables in there, but as we had plenty of time to look around, EVERYONE was waiting. Done with dinner and looking for ANYONE to clear table, waiting to get ANY food at all. Waiting.
Another couple comes in WAY after us, gets greeted by waiter who is telling them that something is free today, not sure what, just sure it was because they were crazy short staffed. One poor guy looked like he worked in the kitchen but was out in dining room as waiter and proceeded to dump glass of water on girl at a ten top. We're still waiting for someone to come by. I go ask if they're short handed and BOTH hostesses (2, I know, it's crazy!) said yes. We got up and left. Hostesses asked if we wanted to speak to owner. We said no thanks and went somewhere dependable.
Now, here are my questions.....Why in God's name were there two hostesses, why weren't they helping out, clearing food/getting water (we could have used it) and if owner was there, why weren't they doing something to fix the disaster of a dining room?
As we left they put up sign saying closed until 4p.m. which was probably best thing they could have done. If only they had done it before those other poor tables got stuck in there!!
Sad thing is, I HAVE to try it again because I bought a Groupon. Guess I won't be having the seafood cannelloni!! :0
Not the best. We purchased a groupon to Bistro Catron, and decided to go on a Saturday night. They gave us bread and olive oil, but the bread was stale. We also ordered an appetizer of the corn fritters, and they were delicious. However, the corn fritters were about the only thing going for them. Husband ordered the lamb chops, and I ordered the seafood cannelloni. The lamb chops were tasty, but for the price they should have given larger portions and maybe even a dinner salad. The seafood cannelloni was terrible. It looked like a giant chipotle burrito covered with sauce. The shrimp were the size of m&m’s, and the other seafood bits tasted very old and fishy. Also, some of the seafood was unraveling, but we couldn’t figure out if it was the shrimp, crawfish or crab. There was nothing redeemable about the dish. On the plus side, our server was very nice and attentive. He noticed that I did not eat my dish and asked me if it tasted okay. I told him it was not very tasty, and he apologized. He also removed the charge from our ticket. I’m not sure if we will return, but definitely will stay away from the seafood cannelloni.
Outstanding Food at a resonable price.
Our group of 10 were quickly waited on and the service continued to meet our expectations. We ordered from the Make your own menu where you make choices from a list and the FOOD WAS OUTSTANDING. We met the new chef and he is very charming with a lot of great ideas to make this a destination restaurant.
Be daring and try something new. You will not be disapointed.
Bacon and Chocolate - You can't go wrong!.
Just got back from Bistro Catron and OH MY GOD! Where has Chef Justin been all our lives?? He is doing absolutely amazing things with his food and his creations simply speak for themselves.
The restaurant just debuted their nutritional menu and we had the Salmon served on a salad of fruit, mint, and yogurt. There was just something so different in the wild combinations of the salad that kept me eating until there was absolutely nothing left. The salmon was just about the best fish I've EVER had in ALL of Houston.
The pork dish was amazing as was the bacon wrapped chicken. But the show stopper of the night was the bacon brownie. As weird as your mind may think it is, this desert is absolutely nothing that you could ever think it would be. The play of fun in your mouth with each bite is amazing, and the Chef has truly captured the reason why I love combining salty and sweet.
This is definitely one of my favorite places to dine in Houston now and I'll definitely be going back very soon.
Be sure to check it out on a Thursday when the restaurant has live music to accompany its happy hour. Tonight, there was an awesome saxophone player!
I have some great photos that I'll upload from my camera soon that shows off the ambiance of the place.
Katy Bar the Door.
My husband and I had a wonderful experience @ the Bistro Last night. I would reccomend ordering the specials. The desserts are good too. Bacon Hot Fudge Brownie Sundae? Yes, try it. The mixture of flavors
the chef uses are amazing.
After 9:30PM and more.
My family and I were very impressed with this Restaurant they have somehting for everyone, we

Inner City dining in the Suburbs.
The Restaurant is Awesome, our experience was so good, we tried things we have never had before including BUFFALO CLAMARI instead of Buffalo
wings. Salmon BLT with a secret sauce. Shrimp
and Grits with a Sherry sauce. It is great to have
a good quality Restaurant in Katy.
Shrimp and Grits. The Shrimp and Grits are the best.
