Best Belgian food. Best Belgan Beer. Houston's best Mussels. This place is amazing!

Went there with a friend who had been before. I am a big beer connoisseur. And Belgian beer is my favorite. This place has nothing but the best Belgian beers. Chimay White, Maredsous 8 & 9, and many many others. If you like delicious beer, this is the place for you, and everything I had was on draught!

The menu is amazing. It is very diverse. They had plenty to choose from. She ordered the Mussels, which was my first experience with them. They were absolutely amazing! I only tried one but I will definitely be getting them next time. We both love the onions in the broth to eat with each bite.

I had the Bouchée de Bruxelles: Pastry stuffed with chicken, carrots, mushrooms,

and celery in a cream sauce. For lack of a better explanation, it was the worlds finest chicken pot pie.

Their sides are amazing. Great french fries, and even better potato croquettes.

The place is smaller and therefore more crowded. but it just goes to show how word of mouth about this place has spread like a wildfire. You would never think to drive by this place on Washington, and you would never think it is amazing as it is from the outside.

Cafe Montrose reborn - and a must visit. Mussel fans, rejoice! The fantastic fare from the former Cafe Montrose has moved to the Washington strip and been renamed Broken Spoke Cafe. Yeah, I don't get the name, but the fare is all Belgian and the mussels are the best I've had anywhere, including overseas. The proprietor is in fact the same lady from Cafe Montrose, now a Mademoiselle instead of Madame (thus the change in restaurant). She's kept the important things on the menu, including the moules and frites for about $16 in about 8 varieties. My friend had the roquefort mussels that are in a creamy sauce and were amazing. I chose them in tomato sauce which were also excellent, just not as decadent as the roquefort ones. The proprietor is friendly as always and her heavy accent only adds to the charm. The wine list has about 20-30 wines, many of which are in the mid-$20 range, which is always a plus. The only 2 small disappointments were the onion soup (which wasn't so gratinée as it could have been) - not bad but nothing to write home about. And, our waiter lacked a little decorum but was pleasant. We ate on a weeknight and I'm sure the weekend brings better waiters too. All in all, it's a fantastic place. Huge list of Belgian beers, quaint Euro atmosphere. Go.

Citysearch Editorial Review. The dining room of this small Belgian café is definitely quirky; the walls are painted yellow and decorated with bicycles and the wonky ceiling mural is only half finished. But Broken Spoke is well-loved for its rough edges, a neighborhood joint for locals pining for humble Belgian specialties, mussels and fries being the most popular. Although eight variations from curry to Roquefort mussels are available, the marinière version prepared with white wine and butter rules the roost. For dessert, the crispy, caramelized apple crepe (really more like a pancake) is an absolute must.

European Restaurant in the Middle of Houston. Many think of the broken spoke as the famous country dance hall in Austin. But this broken spoke refers to a quaint family-run Belgian restaurant just outside of downtown Houston. The broken spoke they are referring to is a bicycle spoke and the restaurant is covered with bicycles---very popular in Europe. The food was scrumptious and served by what seemed to be the chef and owner, a very sweet woman who sounded like French was her first language. I had the cordon bleu along with an excellent Belgian beer called. It came in a large 16oz bottle and was delicious. But, if you’re watching your pennies, be sure to ask the about the beer prices. The beer menu didn’t list any prices and when the bill arrived I found out that my yummy beer was $14.95. At least it wasn’t fifteen dollars! ;-) But that didn’t hinder my experience. I will definitely be visiting this local café again soon!
