It's a tiny hole in the wall in downtown, and you'd easily pass it by if you weren't looking for it, but the burgers here have won the hearts of the most discerning eaters in Houston because they are always awesome.
Such a huge letdown. – There is one caveat to an overall horrible experience: The Muffaletta Burger is excellent and downright tasty. The rest of the overall experience is truly bad. When an establishment has to have a sign in front saying to "be patient", maybe they should move onto something else. Maybe selling real hubcaps.
First off, this place is TERRIBLY cramped. There is essentially no seating. I was unfortunate enough to have to try and find seating for four outside on the side"patio". It was hot, fly infested, and it smelled like a dumpster. The fans are an amusing afterthought. Oh and they were out of regular Fries. An alleged world renowned burger joint out of Fries? Pathetic.
The food is mediocre. Again, the only standout was the Muffaletta burger. The chicken burger and the plain cheeseburger were not worth the trouble at all. And Mom behind the counter was downright rude!
Overall, a truly dismal burger joint that I will never go back to and tell everyone that I meet to go to 5 Guys Burgers .
Creative and tasty burgers almost make up for no shakes – On approach, Hubcab appears to be everything you want in a burger joint: understated, somewhat hidden and small, with little to nothing invested in decor or furniture sprawled about outdoor only seating and most likely, a couple of downtown beat cops on break (cops are a good indication of burgers as they favor cheap, large and home cooked taste).
When you walk in you will expect a short menu of basic burgers but instead, you are greeted with a lengthy list of interesting beefy options. Try the "sticky" peanut butter and bacon perhaps or the "Philly" made of shaved rib eye with all the cheese steak fixings. Do not let this full you into thinking that a regular old cheeseburger will not impress, because it still shines. I recommend the frito pie burger, as a ubiquitously Texas, fiery and messy cacophony of glorious flavors.
Fries are hand-cut and come in regular or sweet potato, which you should stick with as the regular leave me wanting.
With all this praise, why only 4 stars you ask? Five stars cannot be give to a burger join that offers neither shakes or beer. This is critical sustenance to burger enjoyment and should be noted.
Really good – I got the Hubcap decker with fries after asking them to pick something for me. A giant juicy double cheeseburger came out with a toasted bun minutes later. It had a really nice and unique flavor and was cooked and the two patties were cooked medium-well but without the tougher texture or loss of juiciness. This is a really good burger.
I went back and got a Philly Cheese Steak Burger with sweet potato fries and my friend got the Greek Burger. I didn't try his but mine was possibly the richest burger I've ever had. Ever bite had so much going on and so much flavor. Very good.

What a find! – I stumbled upon this place today when the restaurant I wanted to eat at closed at 2:00. I remember seeing this place mentioned in a local Houston magazine and I had wanted to stop by and try it. Boy am I glad I did!
I am usually very picky about my hamburgers; I like good quality meat and a bun that isn't mushy. This place was perfect! The meat was fresh and cooked exactly as I ordered. The bun was also fresh and was substantial enough to hold all of my toppings. When I ordered pickles and jalapenos, they gave me a ton! Not like some places where you only get one pickle on the whole burger. I ordered a standard burger, but they had so many other interesting burgers to choose from, that I will have to go back and try some more.
Additionally, I got an order of fries. I think they were my favorite part. Fresh cut and fried with the perfect amount of salt and seasonings, yum! They reminded me of homemade fries, but better (don't tell my mom).
I like that the place is sort of a "hole-in-the-wall". A place that you kind of have to know about or stumble upon (as in my case) and it's somewhere I would want to take friends from out of town for a quick lunch.
I will definitely be coming back and dragging my other co-workers along with me the whole 5 1/2 blocks. I love that it is not in the tunnels, that way it sort of becomes a Houston landmark. I got my burger to go today, but I would like to go back and eat on the little patio on the side of the building.
If you haven't been, go try it!! You won't be disappointed.
the greatest – this is the best burger spot in Houston . I highly recomend it. Go early cause I went at 1130 am on a Friday and it was already packed n a line half way out the door. I had a cheese burger with grill onions and it was full of beef flavor n juicy. Also the fries are home made fresh cut. That's a bonus. Nothing like good fresh cut fries, what a difference. This place is now my top new burger fix!

While owner Ricky Craig might skimp on square footage, he certainly takes a different attitude when it comes to the quality of his ingredients: 100% all-beef ground chuck, never frozen, hand-formed burger patties are served on homemade toasted buns. Fries come in potato or sweet potato varieties and are freshly cut, hot and extra crispy. Try the excellent muffaletta burger--an homage to the now defunct Craiganale's Little Italy where Craig used to run the kitchen. If you can't decide between a burger and a hot dog, get both by ordering the Quadruple Bypass: A burger topped with chili and a hot dog.
