Not good at all – Went to byrd's for lunch and was told by others it was great palce to eat. Walked in and no one greeted me until I walked up to the counter and was ignored, it was not busy at all. Finally a young woman helped me and was to busy watching what was going on outside and did not get order right. Wanted to know what nest fries were and she was too busy looking at others walking in to answer me. I ordered fries which cost 1.50 extra. Burger was okay, but no flavor, had wilted bitter lettuce, a mushy tomato, meat was juicy. It had no mayo, mustard on it and when i went up to counter to ask for some I was ignored and finally went back to my tabel, not busy to be ignored. Only got 5 fries with sandwich and noticed other dinners having more or same amount as I did. 5 fries for 1.50 a bit of a rip off if you aks me.
Nice young man brought me my food and asked later how I was doing. Did not speak a lot of english and called me lady, but I thought it was cute because he was trying so hard.
Owner is a jerk, I said hello to him and he just looked at me like I was from Mars. i wanted to ask him a question about something and he walked away from me. Rude if you ask me.
I don't think I will go back no one seemed willing to help or answer questions. Food was not that great and was a big rip off. Some of us like mayo or mustard on our burgers and they did not offer any. I suggest the manager treat everyone who comes in with some respect and have his staff act like they care. I chose to eat lunch there when I could have gone to Cabo's, Nit Noi, Cava Bristro, Chipolte, and a host of other resturants so I suggest they step it up a bit if they want people to come back.
This Place Rocks!!!!! – This place is great! The food is outstanding. I thought is seemed familiar then I met the chef and found out she gets her influence from southern California. It looks like something out of mid-town Manhattan, but the food is very California, what a great concept. You gotta try the pork sandwich and get the sweet potato fries, truly inspired.
Byrd's, you ROCK!!!!!!!
Best casual dining in downtown, maybe Houston – I have eaten here at least once a week since it has opened. Have not been disappointed yet. The quality of the food is unsurpassed and the prices for what you get are amazing. The burgers might be the best in the city.
This one is a must try for anyone who appreciates good food made from quality ingredients. And the wine selection is amazing to, and the prices, well the same as above, great for the quality. I am addicted.
not that good – I went to Byrd's the other day and ordered a turkey sandwich which is not their specialty but if you charge this much it needs to be great. First of all I paid $10 for a sandwich on sliced bread with no sides and a drink. I ordered it with no mayonaise and it came with mayonaise. I sent it back and it came back dry with no vegetables and no guacamole so I sent it back again. It was decent but no better than Schlotzsky's or Spec's and you get less for your money. I might try this place again but I would get one of their specialty dishes to give it a fair chance. The managers were very nice but the girls behind the counter were not overly nice to me when I took the sandwich back.
Great Downtown Lunch Spot – Been there countless times in the last two months and my official new "go-to" place. Always pleasantly surpised with the daily specials and soups. Great open and vibrant atmoshere, owners work the place hard, customer service is excellent. Fresh ingredients, great concept and location, and a definite "uptick" from other downtown grab and go eateries.
Citysearch Editorial Review – It has long been said that no one can live downtown until people can buy their groceries there and Byrd's market-café hybrid claims to answer that need. With only a few stands of canned goods and pasta, that's hardly the case, but with such a delicious and satisfying menu we're hardly complaining. Hearty, drippy burgers and sandwiches with gourmet touches draw big crowds for weekday lunches but, unlike other downtown eateries, Byrd's stays open for dinner with entrees such as grilled flatiron over penne in spinach-shallot sauce. The format is order at the counter downstairs, move upstairs for extra seating.
