Solid burgers with free toppings.
I've been on a burger frenzy lately. Whatever is making me crave ground beef on a patty, I have no idea, but the craving had me stop by the new FIVE GUYS burger joint in Sugar Land on my way home yesterday. These guys have a reputation for being especially tasty, but would the final product live up to the hype?
I liked the easy to understand menu. The regular burgers come with two patties of beef (about 1/2 pound) and your choice of FREE toppings. Or, if you want less meat you can get a mini burger with just one patty. I went to for the classic burger with 2 patties and got some grilled mushroom, grilled onions, lettuce and tomato for my topping. Now to the fries. There are signs all over the store that say they've won awards for best fries, so I had to order some, but the guy at the counter warned me the serving would be large enough for 2. To spend or not to spend the $2.89? I'm a foodie so of course I had to try the fries even if I knew I couldn't eat them all.
Overall, it's a decent burger joint with solid food, and a clean, chipper red/white themed diner atmosphere. The $4.89 burger with free toppings is decently priced and pretty good, but the bottom line is that I would rather spend about 50 cents more for a Fuddrucker half pound burger any day. The fries were abundant and served me a lot, and they were good and crispy but I barely at 1/4 of it, the order was so large. I would have preferred that they offer a combo and let me pay, say $1.50 more for a side of fries that I could finish. As it was, I had to pay more for an order I knew I wouldn't finish and ended throwing most of it away.
