“The restaurant's ambiance is perfect for the romantic special evening, the noise level is moderate and the selection of music takes you to a far away place making you feel like you are in South America, or Cuba.”
“The service was outstanding, the waiter was well verse in the knowledge of wines, he provided the history, the make up and even the % of its content, i.e. alcohol, of the wines.”
“The restaurant is unique in that it strives to provide Latin American Cuisine encompassing several South and Central America countries as well as Cuban cuisine specialties.”

Hostile Owner!!!... stay way.....
I have been in Guayaba Grill (US 249) several times. Music is good (excellent Latin band); however, food suck, temperature inside is very hot so after just one dance it is uncomfortable hot and humid (it is done un purpose by owner to accelerate drinking), drink selection is poor. Last couple time there, my wife and I witness couple disgusting issues.
(1) First visit: a customer dropped his drink by accident and restaurant is not prepare to clean a wet floor. Waiters decided to use table cloths to dry dancing floor...... yes, same table cloths they will use to dress table where you eat later.......
(2) Second visit 2 weeks later: I brought a couple friend of us for the first time (unfortunately we recommended place because music). We were in table and my friend wife asked for a glass of wine however it was so bitter/bad she returned it immediately after first sip. We all ordered other drinks such Cuba Libre, beer, scotch on the rock. Couple hours later and after several drinks, we asked for the check. Well....., we found her first glass wine was still there. We asked charge were removed since wine was spoiled, she did not drink it and returned it immediately.... ...... Well, the owner show up in our table with a cop behind, extremely rude, insulting them saying BIG SH..... words and demanding us to pay $5 glass of wine.......we found out this was the OWNER!!!!.... and behaving like a gang street member or drug mafia boss demanding his $5 ....... his "body guard" a Houston police officer on duty just maintained his distance, waiting to see if we become "violent"........ we were in shock seen this guys screaming and demanding his $5….. we decided to pay his $5 cheap wine and avoid an incident but NEVER will put a step in such the place...... it is definitely low class place with a gangster has owner. Avoid it you can. IT is a shame since it is among few tropical Latin options in the US249 area ...... This poor guy won his $5 ....but lost 4 customer for ever......
honestly, avoid this place......
Horrible and disrespectful Service.
the music was great but the service was unacceptable. First, I order two appetizers and the waitress didn't bring me any silverware. My sister had order an appetizer and an hour later, she had to ask the waitress if she was going to bring it or not. The waitress asked her if she still wanted it or not (very rude). My sister said no and we asked for our ticket. We went to the front to pay and ask (whoever was in charge last night) for the managers name and number, which he refused. We paid and left the building and the waitress sister came behind my sister and started going off saying get The F**k out of there if we didn't like it. I tried to tell this other waitress that we were outside the building and we were leaving and she was out of line for talking to us that way. Because she kept insulting us, I went inside to tell the security guy that this employee was insulting us, him the guy that didn't want to give us the managers number came outside, I explained to him what his employee was doing outside and she started going off again, the sister (who was our waitress) came outside too and started going off on us too. We walked to our car, we were in our car pulling out of the parking lot and a bouncer or waiter and the security guy knocked on our window demanding if we had pay. They demanded their employee made us go through, the least they could have done was to forget about the ticket but we did pay and we show them the ticket. But honestly, it was so embarrassing to have two people at our car asking us if we paid for our meal.
Like I said, the environment was great, the music too but the service wasn't good at all. I will contact the manager and let him know, I will contact the owner and let him know because such place and clients deserve good people to work there.
AWESOME LATIN GRILL. I went this past Saturday with all of my friends and it was amazing. I mean look at what this place has to offer… We went around 6pm, big free parking to begin with and a beautiful location. The owner greeted the whole group at the door (never has an owner greated us at the door). We sat down and I started off with a mojito. WOW!!!! The best mojito ive ever tasted(well atleast the same quality from my tip to miami). After a free drinks I had a Lomo Saltado entree it was devine. We drinked and danced the night away just like my vacation in the Islands last summer. And to seal the deal right when the night was almost over I ordered some empandas to sober up since the kitchen was open all night!!! THE BEST WAY TO PUT IT….A TASTE OF A CARRIBEAN VACATION AT HOME.I will become a loyal customer from now on
Terrible service! Small portions and pricey!.
We were trying out a Groupon, thankfully, otherwise this would have been a really expensive and terrible experience!
Food portions are fairly small, and rather pricey.
Service was the worst thing. Initially we were told that they don't service diet coke, or any other diet drink! WTH? No diet coke??? Then they said they did and my husband got it, but he said it did not taste like diet (very bad, I'm a diabetic and this could have been disastorous if I'd risked it).
They had no apple juice for the kids either! Or even oj as a substitute.
Waiter took forever to bring our food, but once we got it, it was very taste if rather small portions.
We then ordered a dessert to go as our kids were getting grumpy, and it took 20 mins to arrive - SERIOUSLY - 20 mins to cook a sweet empanada and put it in a take out box. And they no plastic spoons (it comes with ice cream) so gave us a fork!! I LOL as it was soooooooo bad!
Will not be returning.
Very fun experience!.
My sisters and I took our mother here for her birthday last Saturday and it was our first time trying it. I was not expecting much from here because it always seems empty despite it being here for years. My sister had heard that they have a live band on saturdays that plays salsa so we were all in to try it.
The menu has a variety of dishes from different latin american countries. I ordered the Pollo Guayaba and two empanadas (one of chicken and the other beef) for $1.95. Before they brought our meals out they served plantain chips with a sweet sauce and another sauce was like oil and cilantro, very delicious! The empanadas were served with some kind of ranch sauce and they were freshly made and delicious as well. My pollo guayaba was unlike anything I had ever tasted. It had very creative flavors, it is stuffed with shrimp and cheese and then they top it off with their guayaba sauce. I finished the whole thing, which is something I rarely do, and I still got to try some of what my family got. After that we took to the floor starting with free salsa lessons from professionals Raye Avery and Irene Griffin. The live band played salsa, merengue, and bachata and they sounded great! We practically danced the whole night, very fun :).
The only negative about the night might have to be the slow waitress. She did not check up on us as often as we would have liked which is aggravating when you are ready to order, but she was still friendly and she did not make a mistake in our order. Overall I am just very happy to have found a live band/dancing spot close to home. The food is absolutely delicious and I hope the word gets out more about this place.
TERRIBLE EVERYTHING. TERRIBLE service and the food has been increasingly smaller in portions and their sauces are watered down. Go in on a Tuesday, you'll be the only one's there. I give this place another three months before they close the doors. 0 STARS
Great Food, Great Music and Dancing!.
The decor is very nice, as soon as you walk in you notice how upscale the place looks. The tables look very clean and the bar very well organized. The staff are friendly, and generally responsive.
The food tastes great! The empanadas are especially good! I have also tried the arroz con mariscos, which is excellent, and the ropa vieja, which is a cuban beef dish that is also quite tasty.
At night on Thursday's they convert part of the dining room into a dance floor, and a live band sets up to play authentic tropical music (salsa, bachata, merengue, cumba). There is a free dance lesson from 7-8pm before the band starts. Then the social dancing begins, and the fun continues until midnight or later!
For an all-around good time and good food, there are very few places like it anywhere else on the north side. Definitely worth checking out!
Bad management, happy hr specials on website are inaccurat.
Pros: Seated quickly, staff was friendly, salsa lessons happening on the
dance floor were entertaining
Cons: No one came to our table for 20 minutes after we were seated. We had to call the hostess over to make sure our table was even assigned to anyone. We went for $2 margarita night and were then told that the $2 margarita special (which is still, even today, advertised in BIG RED LETTERS on their website) was no longer in effect. We were told the owner had not updated the website in over a month, but the website indicates that is has been updated in 2011 so it must have been updated within the past 2 weeks. When we asked to speak with a manager, the hostess told us that she was the manager but could not give us the special.
We left and went to Los Cucos, across the highway, and had excellent service and a great time (plus GREAT margaritas for only $5! Much bigger than Guyaba's)
I would recommend Americas, Las Adas or Havana over Guyaba for Latin food. Guyaba is SO poorly managed it's just irritating to go there even though the food is good. Every time I go they are out of something that they shouldn't be out of (chips, orange juice, etc...)
Great Food, Better Prices, Perfect Service!.
Guayaba Latin Grill - Better food, better prices, and the addition of some South American dishes. Do yourself a favor, try Lomo Saltado, which is a Chef's Special and one of the most tender, appropriately seasoned and appointed beef I've had this year. I've also tried the beef and chicken fajitas and my only disappointment is that I have to drive all the way from Katy to get more! Juicy, tender with fresh sides, great guacamole! Nice atmosphere, friendly staff and great service. I'll be back! They have an extensive menu so try everything if you can cause it's ALL GOOD!
I specially want to thank the owners for being very attentive along with the staff.
Thank you and I wish you a successful 2011

Awesome place!!. My girlfriends and I have visited Guayaba several times. We love this place! We love dancing to the live bands they have on Thursdays and Saturdays. Not only do they have a great atmosphere, they also have excellent food. My favorite is Pollo con crema de jalapeno along with a passion fruit mojito. I can never go wrong with that!
