My wife and I spent 5 nights at the Commodore. The rooms are clean and well kept, the beds are very comfortable and the hospitality is superior. It is by no means a 5-Star hotel, but if you're looking for a clean room for a fair price, this is the place. All the staff are friendly and eager to satisfy. If our travel takes us back to Galveston we would definitely stay here again.
First, yes it is a MOTEL. That way EVERYONE gets an oceanview. Our family of 4 stayed there for $8 a night more than Motel 6 which was blocks away from the beach. They are EXTREMELY family friendly. When my kids were being bothered at the pool & a talk with the parents did no good, I phoned the office. Within 1 hour the trouble makers were leaving. When I inquired about places to eat, I was given the names of places both on and away from the beach. We plan on going back
We were pleasantly surprised with The Commodore. We were nervous about staying here after reading several bad reviews. This isn't a 5 star hotel, but our rooms were very clean and the beds were so comfortable. The private balcony with the gorgeous ocean view was awesome! The staff was helpful and friendly. The pool was very nice and big. The hotel is right on the corner next to a stoplight and crosswalk, so getting to the beach was quick and easy. You are in walking distance of several great restraunts. The continental breakfast did not offer a large variety, but was OK. All in all, we enjoyed our trip to Galveston and would definately stay at The Commodore again.
Let me start off by saying that the
only problem with this hotel is going to be with those that want to take a bath as the bathtub was very small. But it works great for a shower! The elevator was a little slow so we just ended up taking the stairs which was not a problem. Beyond that, everything else was great! The front desk clerks at check-in were really friendly. Very helpful and accomodating. We also received a coupon for the Rainforest Cafe at check-in which was awesome.
As far as the room went, it was a nice room. 2 of the walls were brick, which gave it a very rustic look. It was a little different than what you'd usually find and I enjoyed that. The bed was comfortable-I got a very good night's sleep on it. Channel's on tv were a little limited but all the usual channels were there, however I wasn't there to watch tv anyway. Everything was clean when we arrived, the room smelled nice. And when we put out the sign to request room service, it was promptly attended to. The best part of the room was the balcony. Had plenty of room to sit out and admire the view of the Gulf across the street. Was awesome being able to cross the street(with a crosswalk) and be right there at the beach to go swimming.
All outside areas of the property were generally clean. There was a really nice size pool with a waterfall that enhances it. All of the rooms were non-smoking which I loved. The continental breakfast was delicious which included cereals, muffins and danishes and oatmeal. In addition, juices, tea and coffee were available all day. Bags of cookies were available in the afternoons. Made for a tasty snack! And
finally, there was some very good seafood restaurants all around the place easily within walking distance as well as a 24 hr diner right next door. We got breakfast here and it was very good! So to sum it all up, we had a great time here and we WILL be back!
Best value on the Island. Great ocean views from every room. Fantastic staff. Quiet, comfortable and affordable. We've stayed here several times and would not even consider anywhere else.
We really like this hotel. me and my wife went last weekend for 3 days 2 nights we are form San Antonio , we had been on padre island, Corpus Christi and now on Galveston, so far Galveston it has been the best location ocean front hotel we have had. the view its really good from any room @ this hotel. the service in general is good we like that the hotel has a lot of restaurants around and you can walk to lots of places, example "the spot" gourmet hamburgers, nice place, or the 4 people bicycle place 2 blocks from the hotel rain forest, and Ihop pretty close too. the rooms are ok. big tv's. some rooms with a mini fridge and yes the bathrooms are out of date but it was pretty clean clean carpet, clean bed. overall i can rate the hotel a good 8.5 for location, clean, nice pool, good service.
I was reluctant to book at this hotel, due to the many negative reviews... However, it was a great hotel. I am very glad I did go with it! Clean rooms, new carpet, colorful bedding, sheets were fine-wondered after a review from another previous hotel guest on this site, view of beach was fantastic, just across the street from beach with easy access at crosswalk at corner of hotel, pool was clean, breakfast was fine -oatmeal, danish, muffins, cereal, coffee, juices, & milk was available 24 hours day, plus cookies from 3-10 pm. I had no problem with parking, plenty of spaces. Other reviews mentioned noise, the rooms have brick walls separating them, different from most hotels - sheetrock. I have heard alarms gom off in rooms next door in other hotels, not here - the brick walls were quiet! The balcony was just wonderful, spent some peaceful time out there. I highly reccommend this hotel to others!
Top stop to stay after travelling right
across the USA without seeing the ocean since the Californian coastline - reminded us of home staying right on the beach with great sea views. Saw fishermen catching red fish from the pier in front of the hotel. Was quite a windy night as Hurricane Isaac was in action further south. Hotel is close to the beautiful Gaido's Restaurant, just a short walk there. Don't know where review about library came about as I didn't get there but did get to see the very old Elissa Spanish sailing boat at Pier 21!
Heaps more to write about on other places we stayed, restaurants etc. across the US after our return to NZ - just no time to do them as we have driven right across the US plus prior to that had driven down the Californian coastline from San Francisco to Huntington Beach, just south of LA. In New York at present and due to fly out in a couple of days. Happy travelling to you all!
I will admit I was a little upset when we checked in after reserving a specific room and it wasn't available when we got there. What good is it to reserve if your not gonna get what you asked for..I have found after coming to Galveston for many many yrs.i still come back to the Commodore...My room has ALWAYS been very clean...I'm a nurse I know clean....My bed has always been comfortable...view is awesome...The older gray headed man at desk could stand to be a little more friendy....The maid service was excellent and very friendly...The location is great...Joe's Crab Shack next door Gaido's ,Ihop...Lots so close by....Beach and jetty across street.... Love the Commodore....
Great view, close to the beach,
friendly front desk !
Drove 6 hours and they let us check in early. Room was clean and tidy. The view was pretty awesome !!!
I would stay here again if I didn't want to spend $200/night on one of the higher end hotels.
Our rate was around $80/night
