Carmelo's Burritos-N-Tacos

Located in a strip mall off of hwy 90 and grand parkway, Carmelo's is one of the only restaurants in the area that I can count on every time. A small, family run joint with about 10 tables, Carmelo's is a favorite spot of mine to stop by for food to go on the way home. Because it's family run, by the second or third time you come, the husband and wife team recognize you and you are treated to a warm welcome. My husband loves the ranchero chicken crispy tacos and can eat 6 of them by himself!! The tacos are a bit spicy, with shredded chicken in a tomato-salsa sauce, topped with the regular garnishments of lettuce, tomato, cheese and sour cream. The burritos are also a favorite: they are overstuffed and so big you can barely fit your mouth around it to take a bite. The chef-owner used to work as a cook in a nearby Mexican restaurant before striking it out on his own. The food quality is therefore just as good as it's sit-down restaurant neighbor, but for a fraction of the price.
