Food is good but they up-charged my debit card after I left Discovered it on my monthly statement. Be careful here.

Wonderful!. I can't believe I've just found this place. I found the place simple and inviting. The service was attentive without being obnoxious. The food was delicious. Our table of six was there Saturday night and, among us, we ordered the daily soup, a few of the salads, the ribeye, salmon, spaghetti, as well as the spinach appetizer. We'd heard about the macaroni with blue cheese and, since only the ribeye came with that, a couple of us ordered it on the side. All was yummy!

There seemed to be a few problems in the kitchen after we'd finished eating (smoky in the restaurant and there seemed to be an issue with the water, then the power started to flicker); however, since we were leaving by then (around 10pm), I don't know what was up and how it all turned out. I do know that the staff did their best to reduce the impact of these issues on our experience.

Bring your fav bottle(s) of wine and enjoy Sophia.

Causual Atmosphere, Fine Food. Tucked away from Montrose in residential neighborhood, I didn't know what to expect when I pulled up. I hoped I was in the right place (they don't have a sign). When I walked in, I was warmly greeted by the staff and shown to my table. The simple decorations had me fooled. When the food arrived I was astounded by the imagination and the complexity of the cuisine. I shared a plate of mussles in an apple brandy sauce as a starter then moved on to the grilled snapper as an entree. Both were fantastic and the portions were generous. My guest had the Salmon and they thought it was great too. Don't be mislead by our choices. Sophia isn't a seafood restaurant, but they do boast a nice selection of fresh seafood. Aside from that they do offer steaks and poultry. I saw several nice desserts while I was there, but the portions didn't leave me with enough room. Word to the wise: Stop by Specs first and pick up some booze. All the tables but ours had brought wine. Don't be left out!

Located a mere stone's throw from the Menil Collection, Montrosians and museum-goers alike can enjoy the modern flavors of Chef David Alvarado (formerly of Shade and La Vista). The place still exudes a certain bohemian feel left over from the coffeehouse days of Café Artiste, but with a menu catering to carnivores more than hippies. Juicy ribeye steaks complemented with creamy blue cheese macaroni, mussels and smoky bacon in apple sherry sauce, and pomegranate-ginger grilled quail are creatively ambitious, modern and comforting. Enjoy the brunch menu on Saturdays and Sundays--try to snag a table on the spacious front patio, then walk to the Menil afterwards.
