Just a little down Highway 6 from its original incarnation, Nyonya Grill continues to serve authentic Malaysian fare in addition to Mongolian-style BBQ (a holdover from previous tenants). The dining room has increased in size to accommodate the lunch crowd and area regulars in search of chain-free dining. The menu has brief descriptions for those unfamiliar with Malaysian fare, with Indian-style roti and satay appetizers. Entrees include noodles, soups, sizzling platters reminiscent of fajitas, curries and plenty of flavorful seafood dishes featuring whole steamed fish, jumbo prawns and crabs…
Unusual and Authentic -- Helpful Staff

Not only are the laksas here wonderful, the staff will listen to your preferences and then guide you to, say, Malaysian laksa or Singaporean laksa. We've enjoyed this place several times and have never been disappointed by anything on the menu. The Mongolian grill-style offereings are great fun if you prefer to create your own dish. This is a strip mall place with little atmosphere, but the service is helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly and the the food is very fresh.
- Pros: Interesting menu; helpful staff
- Cons: none
Avoid Nyonya Grill

I am extremely disappointed with Nyonya Grill. Its food used to be authentic Malaysia cuisine but not anymore. It has certainly gone downhill. During my most recent visit, I ordered the curry chicken (ayam) and found it to be bland and the meat not fully cooked. The assam ikan bilis was gluey and tasted like canned tomato sauce, a sign that Nyonya Grill is Americanizing its dishes. The most disgusting thing was spotting a strand of hair in one of the dishes. We were told that one of its chefs has left, and that?s probably why it could no longer produce authentic nyonya cuisine. We will definitely not return as there are better Malaysian restaurants along Bellaire Blvd.
- Pros: Ample parking space.
- Cons: It no longer serves authentic Asian cuisine. Food is Americanized and not in the least bit Asian.
