Went during Yelp promo, not good. I booked a hair appt at Dot Dot during one of the Yelp promotions last year and was recommended a stylist based on the fact that I have long hair. Dot Dot is a cute eco-friendly salon in the Montrose area on West Gray, set in an old commercially zoned house. When I arrived, I was the only one in the salon, but from the moment I stepped in, I did not feel welcome. I was greeted courteously but very sullenly by the person who turned out to be my stylist. I was offered a drink and asked to wait in the waiting area cum kitchen dining area but not once was I offered a smile.

The somber sullenness continued through my hair consult and the entire service. I tried to lighten the mood by commenting on the music and the blow dryer, but the stylist was very quiet and almost resentful in her attitude. Maybe she was worried about getting a proper tip. I swear this is not my imagination because I mentioned that I am in the service industry and she made some remark about how somebody might be getting a better tip than her.

Turns out my stylist was the owner, and not once during my service did she mention that fact. I found out during checkout when I picked up her card. Despite the attitude, I tipped the full amount of the regular undiscounted service, and even purchased a bottle of something. Still, no smile.

Maybe it was bad day, maybe it was the fact that she had given too much of a discount on yelp, maybe she took an instant dislike to me, I have no idea. I like to give good reviews and feel like I am almost always giving good reviews. So for me to write something less than laudatory? It must've been bad because whatever the case, on the one occasion I went to Dot Dot, I did not get warm and fuzzies. On top of that, I didn’t get the hair I wanted, she gave me layers without any shape, but at that point, I didn’t bother asking her to clean up the cut. I just wanted to go somewhere where my business and money would be appreciated.

Tips for Dot Dot Salon

I came here on the recommendation of a friend who has been going to Deborah for a few years now. I've always like her hair and was in need of a new stylist, so I booked an appointment .

i was able to schedule and appointment for a few days later. The location is great, but my only complaint was that sign was a little hard to see. They only have a small sign out front, and I passed it the first time and had to circle back around. A little annoying, but no big deal.

Once inside I was happily surprised by how cute the interior was. I took a seat and Deborah came to introduce herself to me right away.

First she took me to her station and looked at my hair dry, always a positive sign! She asked me what I was looking for and how I usually style my hair, and then we were off for a shampoo.

The cut looks great, and Deborah was really meticulous about making sure the ends were even and asked me a few times if I was liking how it was looking. It's been a few weeks now, and I can tell it was a good haircut because it is growing out well.

Price was actually a little lower than I expected.

They have a ton of earth-friendly products for sale, but I didn't feel pressured at all to purchase something, but Deborah did give me some recommendations when I asked.

Overall I am really happy with the cut Deborah gave me and will definitely be back to her again.

Maintainable, sustainable style. Trey cut and colored my hair about three months ago. I like my hair short, but have trouble keeping my Alfalfa-do from sprouting through my crown. Not only has my 'do kept it's shape and remained control-able, the highlights Trey artfully arranged still feel both classy and wild.

Trey's smile and great taste are not the only reasons to visit Dot Dot Salon. The salon offers planet-friendly products in a cozy, conscious space. Love!

Lucky Stop. I live in the Montrose and had never noticed Dot Dot, until I was walking past one day. It looked interesting, and I was really in desperate need of a cut. I found out they don't take walk-ins, but I was able to make an appointment with a new stylist, Trey. What a lucky stop that was! She gave me a great cut, and I love it! Thanks Trey for the awesome new look! I'll be back to see you soon!

Trey is an amazing stylist. Trey is awesome! Trey does an amazing job with color, and gave me a beautiful red ombre hairstyle. Trey also styled my hair, and it looked amazing! I love Trey's style, attitude, and friendliness, in addition to mad hair skills.

Dot Dot Salon is in Montrose, and the salon is comfortable and welcoming.

Best Haircut I've Ever Had!. Finding someone to cut and color my hair is always like trying to find a good doctor. You want the best, you want to have a good relationship and you want to be able to get in to see him or her when you need to.And...you don't want to have to keep looking for a new one. Well, Deborah, at Dot Dot Salon is my new hair doctor. She was awesome because she discussed with me options for my hair, asked what look I was going for and most importantly gave me a cut and color that was awesome! My hair has never looked better. I get compliments and more importantly, I LOVE IT! The salon is just so cute in the way that it is decorated. It's very inviting, and the best thing is that the products are all natural, so I know that my hair is being really treated great! I have never really looked forward to a hair appointment, but now I do, because I come away with a super look! Thanks Deborah and Dot Dot! :)

Not the best haircut. Just moved to Houston and was looking for a new stylist who could cut my unmanageable mane. Went with this salon based on reviews here and elsewhere. Mistake! The stylist followed the lines of my last haircut, which is no great feat. When I asked her to thin it out as my last stylist had done, she warned me that it wasn't a good idea with Houston humidity. Ok, I understood what she was saying but took the chance anyway. She was right about the humidity, but did she have to do a lopsided job??? She thinned out on one side and not the other, and now my hair is lopsided! It's going to take a while before my hair grows out again, or I'll have to cut it all short, or just live with it. The lesson learned: let the stylist do what s/he wants to do and don't ask them to do something they aren't comfortable with because s/he may be incompetent! Sorry for the bad review but just know what you're getting into.

Looking for a new (better) stylist? Get DeAnn!. I tried DeAnn and the Dot Dot Salon based solely on the reviews online and I'm glad I gave them a chance. After receiving a horrible haircut from a previous salon, I knew I needed to find a good stylist. DeAnn gave a great consultation and came up with an awesome cut for my hair. She was very friendly and knew exactly what she was doing. I'll say I got my best haircut from her and know I'll be going back there for future hair care. I definitely recommend DeAnn and the Dot Dot Salon.

Lindsay Platt is the best. I set an appointment with Lindsay for the Dharma massage and it is an absolute must for those of you seeking RNR.

I had the best massage from Lindsay Platt. She made me feel so comfortable the minute we met. I felt like I was transported to some exotic place far away from all that city hustle and bustle. It was total relaxation and I woke up feeling incredibly refreshed.

The staff was incredibly friendly and I love the salon's decor. It's a home transformed into an adorable salon shop in the river oaks area. I did have a little trouble finding it the first time I went there. I was expecting to see a big sign that says Dot Dot Salon but it was a rather small sign. I called for directions and the staff was very friendly and patient in giving me directions.

I certainly will be coming back to see Lindsay.

Most relaxing facial in town!. I recently went to Dot Dot salon for the Dharma facial, I am amazed at the whole experience, WOW! Lindsay is beyond talented in the service which I recieved. I was taken on a journey of relaxation in the hour 1/2 I had with Lindsay. The Dharma facial is not only soothing in the manner of attention to face, skull and neck, but in all the fluff inbetween. The many aroma's, the mindfulness of stroke's on my shoulder's, back and legs with such a proficient application amazed me. I certainly will find my way back to Dot Dot salon again and again. I recommend the Dharma to anyone who carries life's tension and stresses, do yourself a favor and go see Lindsay.

Best Facial in Houston area...Seriously!!. I just wanted to let everyone know that I was given the gift of a facial from Lindsey at DotDot Salon today and It was by far the best I have ever had. I have traveled quite a bit in my career and experienced many facials in different locations, here in the states and abroad and I am pleasantly surprised at the knowledge and techniques Lindsey used today for the facial...I will just make a few points , she is completely professional and really takes her time with you . What I really loved is the fact that she didn't try to sell me everything in the Salon...smile...she has products available I am sure but she isn't pushy about selling products...and I personally like that. She takes her time and doesn't rush at all and is very thorough..basically this was a facial + massage , she really adds extras in there with the facial...really unbelievable, seems like it was a mini massage also....She is polite and just really nice to be around...Well, honestly you will just have to go experience the facials for yourself but i can tell you that I don't believe you will be disappointed. Hope this honest review helps a little.....
