What Our Expert Scouts Say

The outside doesn't make up for what's inside. Pagoda looks promising from the outside; cute renovated house, nicely decorated, no parking available on a Friday nite. If it's busy, it must be good, right? Unfortunately, the night went from bad to worse starting with the hostess, a young girl with a "i could care less" attitude - who did not once smile or make us feel welcome - and dress inappropriately in torn jeans. Strike one. We sat at the bar because the dining area was full and ordered a couple of lychee martinis. They tasted awful so one of the waiters made us another one. It was a bit better, but not that much better, and my girlfriend found a small bug in her drink. We told our server, who didn't say anything, didn't remove the drink, didn't offer another one. Dinner was all right. We ordered the beef with rice, and scallops over rice. Both were well presented and tasted all right, nothing to rave about. When we received the bill, the drinks were still on the bill - even though my friend's had bug in it!! Bottom line: Pagoda has potential but needs a lot of work to become a place I would want to visit again.

AMAZING!!!!!!!!! FABULOUS SERVICE AND FOOD. This place is absolutely AMAZING! I threw my husband's 30th surprise party here on Saturday night and it went perfectly! Sandy is such a joy to work with and the manager and server who handled our party that evening were impeccable and attentive all night long! EVERYONE raved about the food ALL night and they were in love with the custom Italian Buttercream cake I had made also! The atmosphere and openness of the restaurant provide warmth, sociability and fun! We drank and danced the night away! I am so very glad I chose Pagoda for my event! It couldn't have been better! Truly exceeded my expectations. The food is fabulous, the prices are great, the drinks are excellent and the service is fantastic!

Shaking Beef best dish every created!. I've become a patron to this restaurant since the end of February, and it seems like every visit is a better experience than the last. Right when you walk in you can tell this is not your average Vietnamese restaurant. The lavish full bar, the stylish decor, beautiful backyard, and the music fits well with the total ambiance of the place. Once seated, usually at the right corner both to admire the garden, I right away order my all time favorite appetizer and entree, the pagoda rolls and the shaking beef, and it never fails to satisfy my appetite! All in all I love this place you get great food, great service, and a great dining environment. Everything you want in restaurant!

The only cons I have about this place is the limited amount of parking. It is especially hard to find parking when they are throwing a party. Also, there is only one narrow time slot a day that they can actually deliver. Besides that, I have nothing more for cons

My favorite lunch spot!. I've recently started frequenting this place for their lunches. I've tried about every other thing on the menu, and have been pleased with just about everything! The beef sashimi is amazing! I could literally eat it everyday. I would come here everyday just for that. The atmosphere is wonderful and I love the friendly and fast service. The owners have been very hospitable. The parking could stand to be a little bigger, but other than that it's a complete gem!!!

Great Food and wonderful restaurant. I have never had a bad experience with Pagoda. These negative reviews are very suprising. The food is always delicious and the service is always attentive. The bar is beautiful and is a great place to meet and hang out with friends or a date. I have been living in the heights for a year and have made this restaurant one of my neighborhood favorites! I even called in delivery the other night and it was at my house in 30 minutes hot and ready to eat. I would suggest people give this restaurant a try or if they already have to give it another. It is a great place for heights dwellers to enjoy a night or an afternoon out. Great restaurant!

an attempt at the most unauthentic food. i am vietnamese and i will be the first to assure you it's not vietnamese food with a fusion twist. it's vietnamese food with the lowest grade quality of meat and seafood available. took 4 different waiters to get a drink refill. the beef tasted like rubber. when i asked how big the scallops were, the waiter promised me they were jumbo sized and showed me a circle with his fingers the size of a quarter. i've noticed that the only people who thoroughly enjoy pagoda are friends of the owner. i had extremely high hopes for pagoda based on its house-like ambience. our family threw a party for 40 people in the upstairs private dining room costing us $60 a head. it was worth $5 at the least. the best part was dessert which was likely a boxed pre-packaged item from the local grocery store. unless the owner wisens up and heeds the advice of these poor reviews, this place won't last. whoever it is don't take it personally.

JUST SAY NO. It seems Houston media just writes about new places regardless of the credibility because there is nothing else to write about. I should have known that was the case with this place as I was trying to park in their itty bitty sized lot! Every restaurant has some sticker or framed accolade in their space - only my palate could tell me if the food really was good or not. Dinner service was horrible, plating was amateur, and food quality was embarrassing. I was thinking of coming during the day and checking it out again with hopes of better service, but I decided to "JUST SAY NO" after they overcharged my cc.

Disappointed at the lack of food quality and professionalism. After a friend told me she saw this new place on chowhounds, I decided to give it a try. Maybe they were good the couple of months before the hurricane? I went at night with a few other foodies hoping for good authentic Vietnamese food. I was very disappointed at the quality of their noodles, bread, and rice paper! Very cheap! When you eat authentic mexican or vietnamese the price is usually affordable to get a lot of good food. not the case here. We will not be coming back and I am sure new blogs will pop up about how lame this place is.

Most tasteless Viet Food in Houston. The food was bad. I will not be back. The other reviews are so shocking! but true. I have to agree the service was bad and the parking is just calling for a fender bender situation. Not everyone can afford Cadillac's, Mardi Gras, JAX'S, or even Mak Chin's huge lots - but c'mon, the food is not good enough to try parking there!

So cute!. I never noticed this place until I had to find parking for Jax's! I noticed the cute patio and decided to try it out. I had the pagoda bowl and loved it. It was light and filling. I will definitely be back for more!
