Editorial Review for The Grove – by Andrea Loera
In Short
Located across the street from the convention center, this two-story, ultra-urban restaurant headed by Executive Chef Ryan Pera (formerly of 17) is one of two restaurants in downtown Houston's newest park. The one-of-a-kind green space is surrounded by towering oak trees with an expansive dining room highlighting modern design accents. The menu features rustic American cuisine such as Gulf Coast seafood, steaks and signature rotisserie dishes. The Treehouse roof deck bar features casual bar snacks and a see-and-be-seen atmosphere for cocktails.

I love this restaurant! My husband and I like to eat out, and we like to eat well. This restaurant is one of our favorites. Ryan Pera is an outstanding chef -- inventive, and at the same time, consistent in quality. My favorite appetizer is the pulled pork on corn cakes, and his duck is one of the best I have tasted. If you just put yourself in his hands, with the tasting menu, you will be VERY pleased. The wine list has a good variety -- and reasonable prices. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
Pros: food; atmosphere
Cons: none

Our group of 4 enjoyed the tasting menu, and all courses were both generous and delicious. After several preliminary courses including shrimp, crab, scallops and other treats, the "main course" presented a wonderful fish served whole, loin of lamb, beef tenderloin, possibly the best chicken I have eaten, quail, and several vegetable dishes all of which were outstanding. We asked the Chef to select wines and they were very good and reasonably priced. The service was very good, the various courses being timed perfectly with the food hot and fresh. This is sometimes difficult with a tasting menu. Of course the setting was lovely, very open to the surrounding park. Our group eats together often at the best restaurants we can find, and we are very particular about food, wine and service. The Grove was excellent in every category.
