Imagine yourself in a small, intimate restaurant in Italy, perhaps somewhere in Villa d'Este. There is that same quiet opulence to the setting at Ristorante Cavour, with its wood panelling and plush cushions channeling old world European elegance. Food by Italian Master Chef Renato dePirro offers choices adds to the overall fine dining experience. Without a doubt, this is one of the most romantic restaurants in town.
Decent Food HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!!!!!!!!!!! – For the price and the service it really doesn't even deserve a single star. Went here for Valentine's Day arrived at the restaurant at 6:30 and seated almost immediately. That was the highlight of their service for the night. We waited almost an hour to get the wine we ordered. The surprising thing was that they had a set dinner for the night and it took almost 4 hours from when we were seated until I paid the bill. Food was only mediocre.
A Valentine's Day experience for judging a restaurant is like judging a school by a single dance recital. By definition, the experience will be bad.
Great Food and Service : best kept secret in Galleria Area – My husband, my son and myself had dinner last saturday, we were very happy with the food quality. The lobster was amazing, the escarole fish was fantastic and the filet from Piedmont was outstanding. The waitress told us that cavour is the only restaurant in town using the beef from Piedmont. The service was excellent, the staff was amazing and the wine list is notable with a lot of small allocated wines. we will come back and refer to our friends this italian treasure in the heart of Houston.
Wonderful staff & food on a busy night – I made reservations here for me and my boyfriend for Valentines Day (which is also his birthday). When making the reservation I asked if it was possible to have a special menu typed up to say "Happy Birthday" instead of "Happy Valentines Day," The staff at Ristorante Cavour was more than happy to accomodate my request!! I had phoned several "upscale" restaurants in Houston and asked about typing a special headline and they all told me "No" because V-Day is just too busy a day for them to worry with a detail such as that. Only Ristorante Cavour was willing to go the extra mile to satisfy a customer request on such a busy holiday.
Parking at the restaurant was easy, the food was FANTASTIC, and the STAFF WAS INCREDIBLE! We will definately be back and I would recommend that you try Ristorante Cavour.
Parking....not. – At 7:30 reservation, unmaned cars with motors motors running at the front door.
Had to wait for a bellhop to arrive then and same when trying to leave. IE: No valet parking.
One bottle of good wine
The bill for two...$300+
Some items great, others not so great.
Exceptional Everything – I was invited to Cavour for a lunch meeting last week and was pleasantly surprised! I had the mixed green salad, gnocchi and tiramisu. The salad was the perfect size and the dressing was nice & subtle. The gnocchi was, honestly, the best I've ever had. I am not a big fan of potatoes, but I tried it anyway. It was nice and small, unlike most others, and the tomato sauce was just right. The tiramisu was delectable & so was the truffle it came with. Even the cappuccino was perfectly brewed. The service was exceptional, the prices were fair and it was quiet enough to have a good conversation. They also had several options for a vegetarian, like myself, so I actually got a choice in what I ate, which is a rarity-especially at finer establishments. The atmosphere was perfect for a quiet afternoon, I sat next to the window with a view of bustling Uptown Park, but couldn't hear a single car. Even better, the parking is free and available, unlike other area restaurants. I dine in the Galleria area often (2/week) & usually think the restaurants, though though they are some of the best in Houston, have something to be desired. I have no complaints about Cavour and am anxious to go back! I will certainly try Chef Denis' other restaurant now too!
Best intimate dining, best business lunch, outstanding customer service – I heard some friends talking about this restaurant and was very surprised because I enjoy dining at all the hot spots in Houston and had not heard about it. A girlfriend and I went for lunch one afternoon and I was completely blown away! I had Tomato Basil Soup and a Grilled Chicken Panini and my friend had their Pasta of the Day, and they were both fabulous! When we sat down our server also recommended their signature Chocolate Fondant which takes about 20 minutes to prepare, and it was absolutely worth the wait! Rich and decadent!! The cozy dining room was the perfect place to have an intimate lunch, but I noticed quite a few business men around that looked as though they had stopped in on their lunch breaks. While there I asked to take a look at the wine list and it looked great - alot of Italian wines, but not surprising given that the hotel was built to look like an Italian palace :0) I can't wait to return and try dinner!
Ristorante Cavour – Cavour is an incredible place to enjoy an intimate dinner or business lunch. The food is magnificent and the service is friendly and attentive. Great wines and desserts!!!! Beautiful surroundings, don't miss a cocktail in the bar first! Have the eggplant salad for lunch! Must see!
