Amazing sushi... in the burbs!!!. Finally a great sushi place in my neck of the woods! The quality and creativity of the different dishes, as well as the friendly staff and laid-back atmosphere make it real find. Try it out, you will not be disappointed!!!
Best sushi around... quite possibly in all of Houston..
As is always the case, the best food is always the locals' spot. Nestled in a strip mall off of FM1960, this place is an unsuspecting little dive run by a cool cat named Johnny who also happens to be a 3rd or 4th generation sushi chef (I forget which). He and his family are transplants from the Pheonix/Scottsdale area where he was one of the chefs at a swanky upscale sushi bar. How he got here is a long story not really relevant to the review, but I will tell you that you will definitely see five-star quality and style with every dish you order.
Most sushi places just give you what you want -- nothing more, nothing less. Not this place. You don't get away with that here. Every presentation is a little different/unique/clever. Don't be surprised if part of your dish comes with a garnish of fire. You have to come see to understand. Soy sauce is certainly a great foundation for sushi, but Johnny incorporates a couple of special sauces into nearly every dish that double as both artistic presentation as well as a yummy concoction to dip sushi rolls into.
Speaking of rolls, the menu is extensive; it's filled with loads of cleverly named rolls and side dishes, most all of which are very unique and come in colorful presentations. Wanna suggestion? Try out a "Tootsie Roll". Hungry just thinking about it.
Last but not least, a truly unique sushi experience can only by topped by a clever dessert. Be sure and save room for the "Banana Rama". You won't regret it, and I will only say that I never thought of bananas as fodder for sushi rolls... but alas, I am SOLD. Try it.
Suffice to say, this place is great. You wouldn't expect anything extraordinary given the location and humble appearance, but if you talk to Johnny (who greets practically everyone who comes through the door from back behind the sushi bar), that is exactly what they are shooting for -- great (unique!) sushi, humble atmosphere -- in Humble, no less.
Cheers!
