This small, adorableFrench restaurant tucked away one block off Richmond has all the dishes you'd expect, and done well. The express lunch is SO MUCH food for a good price. Soup, a crepe or croque with a salad (or frites) and dessert! Don't miss the cheesecake!
au petite Mon Bottom!. can i give 0 stars ? yes ? yes I can or i would if i could... au petit my bottom! this place served caned whipped cream next to a 20 dollar desert then the waiter ( excuse me not our waiter ) but some waiter had the gall to confront me when i complained about that. 200 bucks for two people, and the waiter told me to **** off because i complained about canned whipped cream. please save your hard earned money for a place that deserves the attention.
Awesome!. This is my new favorite restaurant! Everything was incredibly delicious, and the polenta that came with my scallops was a masterpiece. The salad with the goat cheese toast and the chocolate crepe were also wonderful. It is expensive but I think worth every penny. Going back tomorrow!
Great Food, Cozy Dining Room, OK Service. I dined here about a week ago. The greens and goat cheese salad was sooo good. We all had and loved the lamb. It was perfectly cooked and flavored served on a bed of a vegetable compote. The crispy polenta it was also served was what sold us on the lamb over the duck. We each ordered different desserts. The key lime creme brulee... very nice but not as limey as i was hoping for. The chocolate mousse... good. And some sort of tart with grapefruits which was absolutely amazing. I'm ordering that one next time and not sharing! You will probably need to valet park here, especially on a weekend. We were one of the last to leave and the valet waited for us. You will probably need to make a reservation. My table I was to be seated at was just leaving as we were arriving so I was happy about the time the restaurant had suggested. The staff was friendly but just a bit slow. We were not in a hurry but we did want our bread with our salads, more wine before it ran out, coffee with the dessert, etc... Prices were a little high but it's a small place sitting on fairly expensive real estate and as long as the food quality is worth it, I will be happy. Give your waiters a little more snap and this place will be perfect.
What a GREAT place for Houston. I recently had the pleasure of being invited to Au Petit Paris by some friends for dinner. I am blown away when a restaurant gets it right. I arrived a few minutes early so I could have a drink at the bar and every member of the waitstaff approched me to make sure I was ok and I didn't need anything. I listened to the hostess receive the evening's diners with a cheerful greeting every time and enjoyed my drink. The wine list is reasonably priced and the selection of great French wine is outstanding. Once my friends arrived, we were seated promptly and our great dining experience began. For appetizers, our host ordered sauteed Frog Legs, Chicken Tart, and Foie Gras. I am not sure how to verbalize how good they were. The Frogs legs were simple and perfectly sauteed, the Chicken Tart was served in a tart shell that was obviously fresh and very flavorful and the Foie Gras is the best that I have ever tasted in the Houston area. For our second course, we had various other salads and a Brie cheese plate. My salad was put together very well, it had a poached egg and prosciutto with an shaved aged Parmesian cheese over mixed greens, I recommed this salad to anyone. For my main course, I opted for slow braised Beef Cheeks, thats right, Beef Cheeks! This dish blew me away. The cheeks were savory and so tender that I did not even need a knife and perfect for this time of year. The waiter explained that the chef keeps his menu offerings suited to the season, good job on that one. After dinner, our host suggested that we order a few of the desserts so we could get a good sample of the offerings. We had a Grapefruit Tart with Lemon sorbet, Crepes with melted French Chocolate and French Vanilla ice cream and a Chocolate cake with a molten Chocolate and Mango center, all were delicious. I was so impressed with this meal, I treated my host to bottle of Veuve Cliquot. Thanks for the experience and keep up the good work
Parle vous francais? I don't, but they do!. This restaurant was suggested by some French friends and we just made our first visit for dinner last night. What a quaint little place! The staff was warm and friendly and very attentive. They have a decent wine list featuring various areas. For appetizers we ordered the frog legs and foie gras terrine, both of which were lovely. The frog legs were not dry at all. We had the chilean sea bass and duck confit as entrees. Both were cooked perfectly, no overdone-ness at all. I order sea bass where ever I go and have had some disappointing ones along the way; fortunately this was not one of those times. Their desserts are good and a bit avant-garde, no standard creme brulee or anything like that. Overall the experience was great and I did notice that a number of the other patrons were already repeat customers. We will definitely be joining that statistic!
Tres Francais wine bar and bistro in Montrose for classic regional French dishes..
In Short
Young chef-owners Eric LeGros and Dominique Bocquier are the duo behind this casual and authentic French bistro in a charming converted house. Classic menu items like house-made terrine of foie gras, cream of leek soup, braised veal shank, rack of lamb and duck confit are worth the extra butter and cream calories. Dessert standouts include molton chocolate cake and caramelized pear tart. There's a small bar at the front of the restaurant.
Getting Better....
Suprisingly I got a last minute 7:30 reservation on a Friday evening and wondered if that was a bad sign for my second visit (the first time wasn't great).
I selected the off-the-menu gazpacho soup for my appetizer and it was excellent - I'd pay for that recipe! I also tasted the Foix gras terrine and loved it. Then I had the veal ? plated over spinach and accompanied by mash potato with potato chip garnish (great idea); the veal was good but I couldn?t tolerate the spinach because it was so over salted - and I love salt, just not the whole container at once. The waitress told me they were aware of the "over seasoned batch" but gave no apology or offer, which brings up the service issue:
Though the table was visited more frequently this time, we still had to ask for obvious things like more ice tea, soup spoons, etc. They also lacked the class of re-pouring the wine; it became our job to do that. I consider these minor issues but irritating enough to take a >20% tip down to 18% or less, a meaningful amount on a $100 dinner, which brings up prices:
My over salted spinach, potatoes and veal special ran $38, or you could say about $50 with tax and tip. It was not worth that and as I said, they knew it but didn't care enough to offer something back.
On my first visit, desert was the best part of the meal so I tried again, this time taking the waitress's recommendation for the Mont Blanc. I was disappointed; there was too much ice in it giving it a watered down taste. I'll stick with the ice cream crepe next time.
Finally I'd add that while the wine list is ok, it should have its own menu. I also think it?s time to hire a sommelier and expand the list. It would also be nice if the chef would visit the dining room on occasion.
Au Petit Paris has risen above my nickname of Au Petit Faux Pas but can go further; I will accept paying top dollar when I think they?ve earned it. They're not there yet.
