Mean Bartender "Kojak" – Nice place, but I dont think the "Kojak" looking bartender likes Mexicans. He was mean and rude to my friend and I. I will never go back!! Boycott that place if you are a Mexican!!!!!!!!!!!
Citysearch Editorial Review – Tucked behind Minute Maid Park in a former brothel, this Cheers-like neighborhood establishment maintains plenty of regulars (think ’Stros fans and nearby loft residents who rely on Long Island Iced Teas) and courts newcomers as a grotto of laidback libation. The bar is one simple room with a pool table in the center, plush black leather furniture on the fringes, tables parallel to a granite bar, and candlelight glowing against dark mahogany walls. A big screen, digital jukebox set to high volume, photo booth, smoker’s patio, pizza, and Joystix, the adjacent arcade, add to the appeal of this ideal warm-up venue for downtown concerts and sporting events.
I took a new lover.... – I was driving down Hamilton, towards Minute Maid Park, when our eyes met. I tried to look away, but I could not. My attention was consumed by something special. A simple 1820 adorned the sign, which is conveniently the address of this Cougar’s den. I label her a cougar because of the sensation you experience when you enter. You cannot help but be entranced by the beauty of this bar which reminds me of a Petty Girl, not one of those “coke-skinny” bimbo types found on Washington or your local clinic, but of a women that begs you to drown in her smile and run your hands over here voluptuous curves. 1820 is beautiful. With rich woods and comfortable leather seating, one instantly glances at the clock hoping that you will not soon be taunted by the ubiquitous “last call.” Trust me; you will want to spend quality time with your new lover.
The staff is the perfect appointment to this laid-back speakeasy. They have this uncanny ability to read a patron. They are more than willing to discuss your day or simply keep your glass full while you contemplate your next visit/date.
If she will have you, 1820 is open seven days a week. It makes me contemplate the fact that she might be a woman of questionable morals, because there is always a very friendly crowed each time I visit. I am starting to think everyone that spends time at 1820 receives the same personal treatment and has a similar experience. I should have been put on notice that this Helen of Troy would attract a crowd being the nicest lounge in town coupled with strong drinks at a very reasonable price,
Now do not let me mislead you. 1820 knows how to let her hair down. It is up to the patrons to set the mood. With a jukebox playing direct downloads one can easily play Frank Sinatra as well as Hatebreed. It is up to you. I appreciate a choice over the despotic attitude of the current DJ. I personally don’t have to gyrate with glow sticks to every last song played. Then again… there is a time and place…. But I digress. Simply stated, you have a voice in setting the mood at 1820. This is appreciated.
If you want to spend time at a lounge/bar that brings back the sensuality of going out, than visit 1820. I feel in love with this bar the very first time. If you want to wear an AFFLICTION T-shirt, pay $350 for bottle service, get shot down by a girl with more penicillin in her purse than CVS, or a guy that gave her the need for said penicillin, than 1820 is not the bar for you. If you want anything else… 1820 will fulfill your desires.
1820 BAR OUTSTANDING A+++++++ – 1820 Bar is an outstanding place with so many extras like outside patio, plenty of FREE convenient parking right in front of the bar, the only reservation you need is if you want to be spoiled with a Las Vegas style bottle service with your own area, they go all the way without the absurd cost. We love it that this sports bar is conveniently located in downtown close to on/off freeways 59/10/45 and provides downtown workers with an upscale happy hour gathering place as well as a great place to meet friends, hangout or enjoy the downtown night life experience.
My car has always been safe there because parking is a wide open huge parking lot that the 1820 bar owns right in front of the building; all eyes are on it from the front door and windows of the 1820 bar. It is also great that the sporting events are just across the street so drink up and watch the coverage before game or event on all the LCD/Plasma TV's then walk over to game at Minute Maid Park and when it is over you can come back for more fun afterwards and your car is right there when you are really too go as well as easy access to 59/10/45, we love that part especially because we hate just going to a game and then going home; we like to hang a while longer with friends and not worry about everyone trying to drive and park somewhere else after the game, it really keeps the after the game party momentum up for all of us. My friends and I have never been disappointed at the 1820 bar; the only disappointment is that we dont live closer.
My friends and I have found that all the staff is accommodating, fun and good for an intelligent conversation every time we have had the pleasure of relaxing on the leather sofas, leather chairs and barstools, they make us feel right at home, service is outstanding with a smile. Anytime we have entered the 1820 Bar we have encountered great drinks from the bar and enjoyable chatter among friends and with other patrons. We love that we can always count on elbow-to-elbow fun on the weekends or other nights enjoy a nice night on the patio hanging with friends or co-workers. If you ever get hungry, the kitchen serves up a variety of fantastic munchies they aim to please you either before you start downing the party water or if you need a little food to sober up from too much party water. We all agree, 1820 Bar is the best place in town to watch sporting events, play pool, darts, video games and hang out with friends as well as make some new ones along the way.
Did I say video games, I probably forgot to mention that next door 1820 Bar owns one of the largest arcade rooms with thousands of games I played as a kid, unbelievable selection of games if you love to play this will be a unique experience for you, no coins you just pay a entrance fee to the game room and it is all yours as much as you can play until they close.
If sports is not your thing, I suggest you come anyway and enjoy the great friendly atmosphere and just hang out with friends and/or co-workers. You wont be disappointed and if you are I recommend you talk to the General Manager, Michael Moran he will make sure you leave happy and want to come back again and again. We met Michael when he approached our group of friends and introduced himself and assured us he is there to take care of our needs and make sure we have a great time, wow, we were all on first name basis with the GM our first visit. We were equally impressed when we came back the next week and Michael greeted us by our names; now thats a businessman that knows how to keep customers coming back! We have made this our home plate party place.
