Tips for Etro Lounge

April 30, 2010

Citysearch Editorial Review. Houston’s premier 80s lounge is tucked neatly behind Anvil on Montrose’s hip Westheimer strip, providing the perfect place to slip away from the hordes who equate cool with the exactingly up-to-date. The space has two levels with plenty of nooks and crannies for intimate seating, a small dance floor below two mesmerizing screens that on weekends project hilariously bad eighties music videos to accompany their electro remixes, and a sizable deck for some good old-fashioned nicotine-fueled Smiths-style brooding. Music is largely New Wave, with some more modern indie thrown in. Water your time warp with creative and stiff retro martinis like the John Hughes, Blondie, and Iggy Pop (half-price on Wednesdays!).

Great Place. I absolutely love Etro. You can go dressed up or casual. Its a great relaxed-ish place w/ a lounging areas upstairs overlooking the 1st floor - has loft-like feel. The music is great. As noted below, its the darker side of the 80's...new wave. All different kinds of ppl. Typically an older crowd - late 20's early 30's. Sometimes crowded sometimes empty but either way - I enjoy myself there.

I can't say enough good things about it.

cool place. no pretense, no BS. good music - great vibe. this is exactly what houston needs. great music (especially for the fan of darker 80's stuff) great layout. large but still cozy. great decor. affordable drinks, good service and little to none of that "see-and-be-seen" wanna-be miami BS thats so rampant in houston lately. kinda feels like a grittier mo mong without the food...
