Editorial Review for California Pizza Kitchen – by Andrea Loera
In Short
Houston's third location of CPK dresses up for River Oaks with natural stone, brick and glossy wood accents and features a spacious granite counter with barstool seating. The signature open kitchen remains as do thin-crust hearth-baked pizzas with innovative toppings from Asia, Latin America and the Southwest; trademark pizzas like the Original BBQ Chicken and Jamaican Jerk Chicken compete with old standbys like pepperoni and traditional cheese. Pastas, salads, soups and sandwiches round out the menu.

I couldn't tell you if the food is good or not... I never got to find out. I arrived at the restaurant right at 8pm on a Thursday night. I was promptly seated and left a menu. I read the menu carefully cover to cover in a span of about 15 minutes, with out even my drink order being taken. I tried to politely catch any of the staffs eyes, but they all avoided my gaze. After the passive, polite approach failed, I tried to hail the passing wait staff, who were not busy at all as only 5 of the tables had customers in the whole restaurant and there were at least that many waiters. After 25 minutes of being ignored, unserved, unacknowledged, I left the restaurant. Who knows if the food is any good here? But the service is LITERALLY non existent. I really enjoy the frozen pizzas made by the parent company California Pizza Kitchen, and I was looking forward to trying the freshly made variety, but now I will never know. I refuse to ever attempt to eat there again and I will be sure to warn everyone I know to avoid it like the plague.
Pros: Beautifully designed restaurant
Cons: Litterally No service
