What People Are Saying About Catalina Coffee

In Short – Well suited to its Washington Avenue address, this independently owned coffeeshop retains its historic building's characteristic brickwork and crisp, architectural style. With a limited menu of bakery goods, the emphasis is on the quality brewed coffee from around the world, espresso, blended beverages and teas. Display case goodies include brownies, scones, pastries, muffins, croissants, peanut butter cupcakes, dipped shortbread and more. Catalina also offers a selection of ice creams like the popular avocado. –

OUTSTANDING breve cubano

by mjsmjs at Citysearch

Had an OUTSTANDING breve cubano this afternoon. A real coffee revelation. And I appreciate that it was on the house after buying a pound of beans. Great place to read quietly for 20 minutes before continuing with the day.

Get Over It

by marymoore2 at Citysearch

I don't think it's quite fair to this jewel of an independent coffee house that the last two ppl have slammed this place because they can't sit on their laptops and use up electricity. You can't expect a small business to be happy with being abused by customers who expect to be treated like royalty for their purchase of a drip or a three to four dollar whatever. It costs money for you guys to sit there and write your books that will never get published or f@ck around on facebook or check your emails hoping you'll get a life sometime soon. It's extremely selfish that these people expect for a small business to foot the electricity bill and the space these people take up for other paying customers that are there for the coffee and not the free ride on their internet. Jeez, go to Starbucks if you want to surf the internet or your own house for that matter. Independent coffee shops don't need ignorant folks like you anyway. I do have to state that I do not work here nor any other coffee shop but I love coffee and am tired of people taking up the best spots in the house for HOURS AND HOURS ON END. Besides, I don't think anyone of these people realize that cords stretched out across the floor is a liability for the owner himself. Someone trips and breaks a leg, he gets sued not the laptop user. Please try to see it from another point of view and look past your own selfish bubble and try and see why someone would be covering the outlets. A business owner does not want to get rid of customers but a smart business owner has to cut costs especially with the economy the way it is.

Now, the coffee is good and these guys have obviously done their research. Go for the good coffee and not the free ride and you will be satified.

Are you kidding me?

by cyberxace at Citysearch

Unfortunately, I'm not much of a connoisseur when it comes to coffee drinks so I can't comment much on the quality of the drinks at Catalina Coffee. What I do know a little about, however, is business and customer service - a quality clearly not shared by the folks running the joint.

I sat down to drink my coffee and catch up on some emails when I noticed that all the power outlets had been covered since the last time I'd visited. I figured that maybe the outlets were faulty and that the problem would be resolved soon, so I asked the guys at the counter. I was shocked at their response, "people would just buy a cup of coffee and just hang out for three hours. And it wasn't real conducive to our business."

Seriously? At 6pm, the place was more than half empty. There was no line of frustrated folks waiting for tables, and based on what I learned of Catalina's idiotic and incompetent management today, there never should be.
