As Houston's oldest ice house, bar offers a sense history in addition to drinks.

I'm sure that Jimmies is the absolute most eclectic bar in Houston.

I describe is as a very easy going Ice House with a wildly diverse crowd. You may be young, old, rich, poor, homeless, not homeless, gay, straight, white, Asian, Hispanic,American Indian, tall, short ,ugly, pretty, slender or oversight and you will be welcome with open arms here.

if you have never been: you must check it out.

I must get back to training for Rocky 12.

Jimmies

The place to go to meet/greet folks in the Heights. Service extremely friendly. Thank goodness they had cold brew after Hurricane Ike. Pretty sweet since there wasn't any power for blocks around.

  • Pros: great service and cold beer
  • Cons: none to complain about

A fun little dive

by thCityShopper

I agree with the previous review, being about to bring your dog is a plus, except if you don't have a dog... I found Jimmie's place to be an interesting place to grab and beer (and pay for with cash only, by the way) and meet some colorful local patrons. The bartender was a little rude about not being able to pay with credit cards & I would have appreciated some great tunes while there. I loved that you can show up in a t-shirt and jeans and flip flops or something nicer and fit right in. Parking was a little difficult, but I was able to appreciate the surrounding neighborhood when we parked parallel on the street. It basically boils down to the company that you are there with. Enjoy the eclectic atmosphere!

  • Pros: doggie accepting, great atmosphere
  • Cons: parking, no credit card machine, music

Interesting little place.

They let you bring your dog. That's gotta be worth something, right? They sometimes make grub for free and they're kind to locals. I appreciate them putting up little words on their signage to say nice things for people who've frequented them that have passed away. It's a down to earth ice house and easy to have a drink there.

  • Pros: Interesting icehouse, the owners seem kind and appreciate locals patronage.
  • Cons: I'm not a big fan of ice houses
