In Short – Housed in a 1920s Mediterranean-style building in Houston's bustling Midtown district, 13 Celsius is modeled after the cozy wine bars and hangouts of Europe. There's an al fresco courtyard, a long white marble bar and a windowed-wine cellar stocked with a great selection of limited-production wines. They also serve fine meats and cheeses, plus fresh espresso.

Cool and unique...

by WineLuva

If you can make the drive... it's a lot of fun. It's unique with outdoor seating. The atmosphere is kind of cold but it fits the style so it's not likely by accident. The wine selection is long as well as the meat/cheeses. Me and my girlfriends had a blast when were here but the drive was a bit of a pain. We'll try it again if we ever make it down there with gas prices the way they are! Does 13 Celsius offer free taxis to outer-loopers? haha..

  • Pros: Fun and lively, good meats/cheeses
  • Cons: Too far for outer-loopers

My other favorite wine bar.

by opinion2008

The thing that I most love about this place and what would keep me coming here it the building. They did a great job on it and I love everything about it. The guys behind the bar (owners?) are hugely knowlegable about their wines. I've always enjoyed their recommendations. The cheese plates are very good and nicely presented. They have a really good beer selection. Try the Fireman's #4 which is a Texas beer that's turning up on tap and in bottles all over town these days. Some of the women that work their could use an attitude adjustment at times. I've had friends complain about this too. The guys are always nice but the woman are just rude sometimes. There's never an excuse for that and this place, though it does a nice steady business, has never been really crowded the many times I have been there so it's not like they were being testy because they were really busy. Of course, that won't stop of from going, we just avold the ladies working there.

  • Pros: BUILDING, selection, atmosphere, owner's wine knowledge
  • Cons: female employees

Mike really gets it!

by Attacat

We love this place! The wine selection is excellent and affordable. Our first time there, Mike, the owner, offered us multiple tastings before we made up our minds on a bottle. We've been several times since, and seen the wine list change and diversify. Mike is very knowledgeable and has continued to be very helpful. The rest of his staff is perhaps not as motivated or passionate about what they do. The food selection is very enjoyable. There is an increasing number of items to choose from, all very well executed. They choose fine ingredients, and keep the selection simple, sticking to what they know best, with flavors truly reminiscent of Europe. And serving wine at 13 Celsius makes perfect sense in Houston! The decor adds to the charm of this place, although the outside seating is very inviting! Caroline Street is relatively quiet, something rare at other outside venues in Houston. In general, the place is busy enough to be lively, but not so packed that you can't get seating or service. We will definitely spread the word!
