The Firkin & Phoenix is an English-style neighborhood pub with a relaxed and jovial atmosphere. We want to be your home away from home, a welcoming place to meet your friends for a pint, some fine food and a good time. We offer a wide selection of bottled and draught beers on tap as well as wines and cocktails. Our extensive menu includes traditional pub favourites such as fish-n-chips, shepherd's pie and bangers and mash, as well as burgers, pastas and salads. We also provide a number of different ways to unwind, from darts and billiards, Ping Pong, MegaTouch, Nintendo Wii, and Xbox Kinect. And for you sports fans, we have 8 LCD TVs throughout the pub, as well as 3 projectors for those big games. At the Firkin, it's all about good food, good pints and good Firkin fun …
Just your typical local bar.
Been there a couple of times
This place is nothing special really, just your average bar with some comfort food. Prices are not really cheap but I could not complain about the quality. My burger was done very well, was fresh and the portion was good. I have read other people complaining about the food, I cannot really confirm. People who complain about things not cooked right that should not even be on a bar menu are just idiots themselves. Rule number 1 when ordering from ANY place that serves food - Order what that place specializes in or something that is just impossible to mess up.
Overall the place is not bad to hang out at, have a couple of drinks and some food with it but not necessarily cheap. Just your typical local bar without anything special.
Decent pub fare for fish n chips.. Firkin & Phoenix is a decent place to grab food and drink in an English-tyle pub setting and watch the game. There are definitely better places to eat English pub-style food (see Red Lion down the street), and there are definitely better places to watch the big game (see Buffalo Wild Wings), but this place does a pretty good job of combining the two.
Not so good if you want to eat. Tried a brunch of sorts there recently. I knew going it is wasn't a "brunch" restaurant but I thought to try something different why not? Brunch menu small but enough on there to choose from. Service was okay. Didn't feel overly welcome but not rude. Food was overcooked and cold. Just didn't have a warm fuzzy - more anxious to leave than anything else. I had been there in the past for drinks with friends and it is more sports bar. If I were them I would stick with finger food and regular pub grub and skip the real restaurant menu offerings - their heart isn't in it.
Headin to the firken. i am on a city wide search for the best bub in houson... this is next on my list... look back in a few days for my review and i will definetly tell you everything you need to know about this place...
Horrible and Overpriced.. Beware!.
We went to Firkin & Pheonix as an alternative to going to BBW-3 on playoffs night. We found our own table and waited about 10 minutes to be helped. The waitress looked like she did not want to be there, probably because she had been running drinks all night (like I said it was playoffs night) I am not writing about my poor experience because of the service. She was okay, just overworked and more than likely underpaid.
I am writing this because this is our second and LAST time patronizing Firkin. The food was terrible. We ordered wings (the best part) and veggie sliders. I can't complain about the wings. The Veggie Sliders were horrid. They were hard and burnt as if they had been burnt hours earlier and then re-heated and served. My 6 yr old daughter (who loves burgers) did not even want to eat them. She told me they were gross. She was right. I tried a bite and was appauled that I would have to pay for this.
About paying.. For the above named menu items and water to drink, we paid 20.00 ! I do not mind paying for quality food, but this was nothing near quality.
The last time we went was about a year ago, we had the chili and it was 20% meat and the rest grease. They did not make us pay for the bowl of grease. We vowed not to eat there again, but thought they may have cleaned up there act. They have not.
The only thing that Firkin has to offer is an amazing atmosphere to watch a football game in. If you go, have a few drinks (also pricey unless there is a football game in which I understand they have cheap beer) and cheer on our team. BUT EAT WITH CAUTION! I would have known the food was nasty after 5 pitchers of cheap football game beer.
Thank you for your feedback. We do not have a host/hostess as we try to create a casual atmosphere. We apologize that you and your daughter did not enjoy the vegetarian sliders. Vegetarian products are not tasty to everyone and it is possible and probable that we burnt your veggie sliders as they are pretty thin. If you had mentioned this to your server, we would have been happy to replace them with our regular 100% Angus sliders. Your title said "Horrible and Overpriced...", yet you wrote that you enjoyed the atmosphere for the game and wings and you were not complaining about the service. Did you have 5 pitchers of beer with us or somewhere else as you commented your bill with us was $20? We are always looking for good honest feedback so that we can improve everyones total experience. Cheers!
Hoppin' Neighborhood Pub. Wow, we love this place -- our neighborhood bar of choice -- and so do all the friends we've brought here. They have a geniunely fun, friendly staff, very attentive, good table service. Menu is excellent, something for everyone. We've never had a bad dish here, from fish & chips to the salads & pasta. If something's not right, tell them, they fix it cheerfully. They throw great themed parties. The karaoke on Thurs. nites is actually kinda classy... great sound, and some of the regulars got some pipes for real! Good mix of ages in the crowd. Again, something here for everyone; sports, digital games, pool, juke box. The owner greets people he recognizes. Seems like a humble guy who works hard and is proud of his bar. Three years old this place, and I say luck's got nothing to do with it. Here's to many more, Firkin!
Thank you for such kind words. Please ask for me the next time you are at the pub so that I may thank you personally.
So many better places in Houston.
The bar should turn off the jukebox when sports games are going to be on.
We only went to the Firkin and Phoenix because they were playing the MotoGP on one of the big screens. After getting the sound to the race, someone decided to play the jukebox and when the songs were over we never got the sound back to our station. We had invited several people to watch the game with us and it was a huge waste of time. We could have planned on watching it elsewhere. We will not be returning.
Most awesome place to eat, play, and party!!. This place is such an awesome joint! There staff is inviting and efficient, the have so many t.v.'s to watch your favorite game, if you get bored with the mundane- how about some Guitar Hero or Wii tennis?!?! They also offer free poker on Wednesday nights and Sunday afternoon which is great for learning how to play and meeting new people. Love this place 'cause the food is awesome too! Definitely my number 1 recommendation!
Best Karaoke in Houston. Everytime I go their on Thursday I have the best time durng karaoke. Everyone sings along, dances and knows how to have a good time. Very classy....
Fish and Chips with an Extra Cold Guinness. Sometime you want deep fried fish with vinegar, hot chips (or fries) and an Extra Cold Guinness. You can get those things at the Firkin and Phoenix. When you finish your fish take your Guinness to the patio and enjoy a f*g (or a cigarette). Franchised theme decor, just like the brewery owned, theme decorated pubs in England. American bar menu with a slight nod to Britain's famous culinary tradition. Adequate to good service, plenty of parking, clean restrooms, moderate prices. Really, I think you might enjoy it.
