Great Sushi. Even though the name of this place suggests an exotic steakhouse experience [which it does hold to account with its customer friendly hibachi tables], the sushi is really what makes this place stand out from the various other Japanese restaurants in the area. Always fresh-tasting, Hoshizuna has come to be my favorite destination for sushi, and I'd have to say they truly make the best crunch roll in town. Also, having been there quite a few times, the overall service is charming--sometimes abit slow depending on when you go there, but still warm and welcoming. Great food, friendly service, pleasant ambience: worth trying.
Clear Lake Japanese restaurant for hibachi cooking, sushi and bento lunch boxes..
In Short
Expect a nod to traditional Japanese decor at this intimate strip mall spot. The dining room includes a full bar area and hibachi tables as well as spacious booths where diners remove their shoes on woven tatami mats. The menu includes sushi and sashimi, steakhouse-style entrees, teriyaki, rice bowls and noodle dishes plus original items like spicy sushi pops, miso-marinated rose fish and Japanese-style fried chicken. Lunch is bustling as area workers dine on bento boxes and sushi specials.
Not that great. First thing to say this place is hard to find the resturant sign is soo tiny I passed up the place twice. Place was very nicely decorated and looks very unique than the other sushi resturants that I have dined at before. Servers seem very nice but works in slow motion mode when I was there, I had to keep on repeating what I need like another plate. Tempura shrimp apetitizer had the batter still undercooked because batter seems too thick, miso soup is very blan and can barely taste the miso taste. I ordered mostly sushi because thast what the my server recommended. I had the spicy tuna that wasnt even spicy and didnt even have green onions in it that gave it flavor, there salmon(sake) and tuna(maguro) and unagi wasnt that good there texture and color was very off from what im use to and seem as its old fish trying to pass it off as fresh. mostly what disappointed me the most is the sushi rice. It was too DRY for me and on the rolls the sushi chef smashs the rice for everything even the seaweed making the rice texture too compressed making it even worst. Overall I wasnt impressed at all and was very disappointed at this place because it has alot of potential. the place needs more work on the chef to improve the food (sushi chef and kitchen staff). this place claiming that they have the best sushi in clear lake is just a laugh because there are better places down the street. I would never go back here to eat overpriced and not worth it for the bad food.
Craving for the most decadent, fresh sushi? I've found it..
You know, I'm hard customer to impress, and it's seldom that I feel inspired to write a review. But this restaurant did it for me. I feel like Hoshizuna is one of Clear Lake's hidden treasures. If you're looking for good, affordable sushi, this place will offer something noticeably different. The sushi is UNDENIABLY fresh. I'm a dedicated sushi fan now and I finish my plate clean because even the wasabi and ginger taste insanely delicious. The hibachi area is very accomodating for large parties as well so it's perfect for business luncheons. They have tatami booths that are great for a group of close knit friends to unwind and take off your shoes after a long day at work. Lunch entrees are extremely affordable and you get a lot of food for your money's worth. This restaurant is so versatile because you can take your kids, your friends, your fellow employees...always a different experience...always a good one.
My favorite days are fridays and saturday nights when they have a bartender on hand you won't forget because he'll whip up any drink you want and throw in a few of his own specialties you can't refuse. This restaurant specializes in various imported liquors like sake, so if you want an authentic Japanese experience, look no further.
I have to comment on the staff from everyone including the bartender to the waiters and the hibachi chefs as well as the manager who greeted us personally to assure that we were having a good time. They are well trained and for a change of pace, they take pride in their work and you can feel like they genuinely want you to have a good time.
If you're still a skeptic, come in on a Friday night, and I can't imagine you considering any other restaurant for affordable, quality sushi with the most welcoming atmosphere you'll be craving for week after week.
