Terrible – Update 11/9/09 This place is now CLOSED- Thank you Mr. Valentino. It's going to be some wing place soon. ;-)
My husband and I ate here last night and were unimpressed at best. There was only a handful of people there (1st clue ignored in error). We tried this place b/c they are in the entertainment book (expiring Nov. 1 for BOGO up to $15.95). The waiter told us that the owner had not agreed to be in the book (which sounded like cr@p to me) but would discount $7.00 toward the meal as a “courtesy”. We should have left right then. The food when it finally arrived was substandard. My stuffed flounder was overcooked as were my husband’s steak and shrimp. The rice was OK and the veggies were very good. I cannot recommend this place- they aren’t cheap and in the Clear Lake area there are so many excellent choices that are a much better value. We gave the waiter who was very nice a generous pity tip as he can’t be making much money working for such a bad restaurant.
Food and Entertainment are amazing!!! – This place offered my wife and I seafood in the Baybrook mall area. Something that is not readily available to the mall. I thought...ok...red lobster isn't sooo bad. How much worse can this be?
Walked in, sat down and my mouth was in for a surprise. This is not your run of the mill seafood restaurant.
If you don't get the crabcakes, you will be sorry. I can't imagine what they tasted like before. This place has redefined crabcakes and has made me a new returning customer just by those alone.
The shrimp salad was so incredible. I am in awe of this food.
The seafood - FRESH. I mean...did they just catch this? I don't know, but man alive, THIS is what seafood is supposed to taste like. If you think Red Lobster is good, you ain't seen nothing yet. This place has a nice look and feel and the food is just one of utter delight. There were couples here on dates and a family or two as well. The owner stopped by to many of them(that I could see) including us. i gather he is Mr. Valentino, though my mind was on the food so much, I can't remember. Waitstaff was smiling and so accomodating. Are the prices for real? You get this kind of service and pay so little.
But that's not all - they got this guy who sings on Friday nights (apparantly only Fridays). Think the waiter said his name is Mike. That voice made my wife swoon. She was tired from all that shopping, but she came to life after hearing him. We ordered wine from their great selection and stayed just to keep listening. He seemed to favor older songs from the 50's through the 70's. Let's just say, we had a night to remember. Than you Mike!
And Thank you Valentino's for moving to the Baybrook area. You've got a lifetime customer in me.
Keep up the good work!
Tired of chains – My wife and I have been going to this restaurant for more than two years and love this place. We found it in a strip center in Webster but since they have moved to Bay Area blvd. It is much larger place and better location. They we voted one of the top ten new restaurant last year and have some great food. My wife and I are tired of the chains and love to support local owner that give to the community they live in. We have met the owner many times. They treat us great every time we come in. We have tried lots of thing they have but as some people no there crab cake are just the best but what you have to try is there great fried shrimp. What can I say but there just the best we have ever had. The oyster are to die for in the winter. We hope that they make it in there new location as we no with the recession like it is thing are tight but my family wishes the Valentino's all the best.
Abomination!!!! – I had heard about this particular resturaunt from a friend, who considers themselves very lucky I still consider them a friend.
This nightmare began the minute I walked in the door. The putrid smell of spoiled seafood attacked me & my wife the minute I opened the door. I knew immediately we had been severely mislead. I find it strange the owner flaunt's his family business as a "fresh seafood fisherman" because that was the farthest thing from a "fresh" smell I've ever experienced.
As we waited at the hostess stand we were ignored by five, yes 5, different employees. It seemed as if we were more of a burden than an appreciated guest. The majority of the staff seemed more concerned with what was on the T.V. at the bar than us getting a seat, or a meal.
I was ready to leave, but my wife was starving and didn't want to go through the trouble of getting back in the car and selecting another spot to dine. Oh if she only knew what we were in store for!!!
When we finally got a table we waited some more, and more, and...... well, you get the picture. Maybe the waiters don't understnd that the longer a customer gets ignored it gives them more time to see all the little things that are wrong, but management certainly should. The dining room was filthy, the silverware had spots on it & so did the glassware. The music was so low that my wife and I could hear the waitstaff joking it up and using the most vulgar language ever in the back. Totally unprofessional and disrespectful.
When our waiter finally approached us he looked as if he had just rolled out of bed; unshaven, wrinkled shirt, no tie & he smelled like an ashtray!! We asked for recommendations and thought we had lost him. Definetely not a good sign when the employees can't reccomend a thing. I was starting to ask myself if even he refused to eat here himself.
We ordered the stuffed flounder and the shrimp feast special they were promoting. We waited, and waited some more for our entree's which seemed odd considering how pathetically empty this dump was. What's the need in getting food out when there are cigarettes to be smoked and stories about last nights drunken haze to discuss, huh?
Needless to say when the food arrived it was an abomination! The flounder was drenched in pan coating which tasted horrible and was terribly undercooked. The actual stuffing had a disturbing smell to it that was almost covered up by the lemon butter they attempted to drown the fish in. My wive's shrimp also smelled spoiled. I'm not sure who Valentino's has entrusted their kitchen too, but they obviously don't know that running old shrimp under water doesn't get rid of the smell or taste of foulness. Not smart hiring an inept chef to make your business a sucess, unless of course you're aiming for failure. In that case, Valentino's is right on spot!! I was unbeleivably angry at this point and just wanted to get the hell out of there.
My wife felt we should speak with a manager, but considering we hadn't seen anyone that resembled a manager since we'd entered i was willing to pay for this trash just so I could get home, I knew I was going to be sick.
So here's your warning: STAY AWAY FROM THIS ABOMINATION!!!!!!!!!! Unless of course you like the idea of shelling out $75 only to be clinging to your toilet all night afterward. I really wish Marvin Z. was still around. I feel confident he would have this place shut down A.S.A.P., someone should!
Good food – I have eaten at Valentino's several times at lunch and at dinner. I love the crab cakes. I have never had a problem with them. The food has always been fresh and well served. The environment is a little casual for the price of the food, however, compared to other seafood places the price is inline with the quality of the food. I really liked the environment of the old location better but this location is easier to get to. The wait staff could be better. The best waitress they had is no longer with them. That's a shame. All in all this is a good place to eat and relax during a meal.
GOING BACK!! – LOVED IT!!!! i took my husband and father out for an early father's day. We had a great time. Our waiter EL knew the menu items very well and was so friendly. And the food was so fresh. i had the 24 shrimp plate, the shrimp was the freshest i have ever had. My father had the shrimp and grits, he said it was delicious. WE ARE HOOKED AND WILL RETURN ASAP.
Absolutely the worse!!!! – I dropped in on this joint last month on the saturday with the flooding and storms,,,,April 11 or the 18 I think. I was trying to get across 45 to Pappas, but was there was flooding on the access road and accidents everywhere. So I decided to try this place. First thing I noticed was few cars and a restaurant that was almost empty....You definitely did NOT have to go on a list like you do at Pappas. That was my first sign that this place might not be up to snuff.....Waitress was listless and distracted. I ordered oysters on the half shell and fried shrimp. The second sign of approaching trouble was when she came and unloaded several dishes of food,,,,not the food I ordered!!!!! But we got through that and my oyster appetizers were finally brought to me.
I eat lots of oysters, so I know what fresh oysters look like, but these definitely looked strange. Rather than the shiny surface appearance of a "just shucked" oyster,, these had a "glazed" unshiny surface, like the glazed eye of a dead animal. My first bite exploded the foul flavor in my mouth that told me I'd best expectorate this filth out real fast. I half expected to find a maggot in my mouth. So a few minutes and the waitress returns with my main meal. She did not even comment that I had not eaten 11 of the 12 oysters on ice. Third sign this place was a looser was when I took first bite of the fried shrimp. Again, it was very very hot,,,clearly just out of the frying vat, but had the unmistakeable taste of really not being fresh. I don't know if the cooks know it or not, but if you take spoiled shrimp, batter it good with sauces and flour and cook the hell out of it in super hot grease, it is still going to taste spoiled. I did eat the first shrimp, but no more. Fortunately, I did not get sick. So I tried the cole slaw,,,,,it was warm and tasted funny, like it had been made long ago and not kept at the proper temperature to discourage microbial growth. So after spending $20+ bucks,,,no tip by the way, I had the pleasure of chewing and spiting out one oyster, and eating one fried shrimp. After that, I got up and left the place with the rest of the meal pretty much intact.
As untouched as my plates were, I only hope they did not serve them to someone else. In the past I have returned to restaurants that were good, fair or merely mediocre. This restaurant is in a class by itself and I can confidently say I'll never return to this place.
Two Words: Never Again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! – WARNING: DO NOT EAT AT VALENTINO'S. My mom, sister and I went to lunch on a Saturday around 1 pm. The place wasn't very busy for a Saturday, but we still were curious about this place since we had seen it many times coming out of Baybrook Mall. We had a hard time picking items from the menu and the waiter was not very helpful/knowledgable about the menu items. He couldn't even give us a good suggestion. When we ordered, I asked for fish tacos with green beans and asparagus. My sister got the seafood platter and mom got the shrimp/fish combo platter. When the food got to the table...it looked great until we tasted it. It had hardly any salt or spices. The fish tacos were extremely dried and tasted like cardboard. The green beans and asparagus were overly cooked and very oily. This was a huge deal for me because when I ordered, I asked for the vegetables to be simply steamed (due to health reasons). The whole experience was very lackluster. When we gave our feedback to the waiter, he was very nonchalant about it and later came back to the table saying the manager was tto busy to see us (though we didn't ask to speak to the manager). We simply wanted to leave and NEVER EVER RETURN TO THIS RESTAURANT.
what real seefood taste like – I have be to the old location and now the new and they are so different but so glad that nothing happened to the great food. I love the story behind Valentino's and that we now have a real seafood place out there. I went last Friday night with a girlfriend. We had the Margie's fried shrimp and they are nothing like any fried shrimp you will ever see at a chain and you can taste the freshness of the Galveston bay. The hushpuppies were also nothing like the chain you could tell they make them there home made. I would be going back again.
Great food – Last night my family and I decided to try this restaurant for the first time. I was there about 7:30 and there were several tables. We were happily greated by the host/bartender who took us to our table. The inside of the restaurant was very nice. It had a full bar, lots of neons, and pictures. After being seated we were quickly approached by our waiter that introduced himself and got out drinks. My husband is a crab lover and got the crabcakes. These carb cakes were great. They look like they were mainly crab, and the flavor that they had were so good you could not stop eating them. I had the fresh Halibut blackened. The fish was so deliciious. It tasted like they just got it out of the water. My grandchildren had the chinken fingers. It was nice that the waiter brought their food out first. Our experience here last night was the best that we have had in a long time.
