ABSOLUTELY PERFECT EVENING. We made a New Year's resolution - this year - to have dinner once a month with friends of over 20 years. We have to go to a "new" restaurant, which we have not been to before. I had been to the one in Dallas...thoroughly enjoyed, so this was our June choice. I made reservations through "opentable" - first time I had used this service and I will use, going forward, any time possible. The service was some of the best ever...anywhere. Our waitress was so attentive, but not "overbearing"...her suggestions were perfect. The wine and food were FABULOUS. We will be back! Oh, yea - the "left overs" are still great!
THIS PLACE ROCKS !!. This is my 5th visit to Oceanaire and just wanted the staff to know i really appreciate what they do. the service is second to none and the Chef Skip is on point came out to make sure everything was perfect..of course it was and recommend to all that want a perfect night out with the Best Seafood in Houston !!
nothing special. My friend and I went there last weekend, the food was ok, our waiter was really nice but it felt like we were in an olive garden the way the seats were set up. The food is a little pricey for what it is. I think there are better seafood places than this one
Very good food but Bad drinks. Went there for a company dinner and was really pleased. This is a first class restaraunt all the way. The service was excellent, the food was excellent, however the drinks were not good (strong, but not good). If you want to enjoy excellent food and not drink - go, if you want to get drunk but not taste the expensive food - go; if you want to do both - try somewhere else.
AMAZING!!!!!!. so impressed, I will be back for more and more. I am so happy that this place is open! Great seafood! Great Service!!!!
Best Seafood Restaurant Ever!!!.
Oceanaire was incredible. I took a friend there for her birthday - they pre-printed "Happy Birthday" with her name on the menus and had a b-day card on the table signed by all the staff. The service was impeccable and the food was amazing. The manager, Jason, stopped by often to make sure everything went well - nice touch. The fish was literally the freshest and tastiest we have ever had. We ordered the Halibut Oscar and the Mahi-Mahi - both were amazing.
I would highly recommend this place and can't wait to go back!!
Wonderful Seafood & Experience.
Oceanaire is by far the best seafood restaurant in the city--if not anywhere. What always strikes me is the quality of the fish. Once you have had really fresh fish, you know it--and Oceanaire has it. The entrees aren't covered in a overpowering, heavy sauce that drowns out the flavor of the fish. They don't need to because their fish isn't frozen or old like so many other so called seafood restaurants. This restaurant celebrates the fresh seafood flavors and compliments it with interesting preparations and combinations. I have dined their several times, and I have never been let down. I even had a chance to meet the chef (Trevor). He brought an appetizer out to my family and made us feel very welcome.
In addition to the great food, the restaurant has an impressive wine list. There are many different wines to choose from. When I have struggled with making a decision, the servers have always been helpful and right on in selecting a wine that fits what I have described.
Major disappointment.
This is an update to my initial review that follows. After our disastrous first visit I posted here and on another site as well as dropping a note to the corporate office. A couple of days later I got an email from the local manager offering to make up for our disappointment. We took him up on it and in a nutshell, they did way better than just make up. My initial review rating was 1 star and that was generous. I'm going with 5 stars for our last visit, so I guess I have to go for the average(3) to be fair. Which Oceanaire will show up on your visit is an open question, but there is absolutely no doubt that they are capable of great things when they want to go to the effort. Specifically, I would recommend Chef White's (Trevor) sliders; split sauteed scallops stuffed with a whisper thin slice of peach and high end prosciutto. Also, I wouldn't hesitate to ask for Peter to take care of us again, exemplary job.
You'll spend quite a bit of time and a significant amount of money and won't get an experience to warrant spending either. We just got abused pretty bad in a Restaurant Week visit so to write specifics in this review probably wouldn't be fair. If they treated everyone like they did us they would be out of business. However, in a general way for a working dinner at an upper end seafood joint McCorm*ck and Schm*ck is a way better choice. If you are looking to be seen in a trendy spot go to Re*f. Both have measurably better food and service for a similar cash outlay and subjectively speaking, considerably better ambiance.
Wonderful Place to Celebrate a Birthday. I made a reservation here for my boyfriend's birthday, mainly because of its proximity to his work and the fact that we hadn't tried it yet. Boy, did they knock our socks off with the service (not the mention the food)! Not only did we get a booth as I'd specified in my online reservation, special menus with "Happy Birthday" printed at the top and a birthday card signed by the waitstaff were waiting for us at the table. I had dropped in earlier to see about having dessert brought out at the end (I didn't know they offered a complimentary birthday dessert), and appreciated how the host "played along" when I acted like I hadn't seen him before. My boyfriend especially liked the sourdough bread, which came out steaming hot, soft and chewy on the inside with a perfectly crispy crust. Everything that came out was super fresh, from the crudites plate and oysters, to my delicious plate of seared jumbo scallops and the baby squash. All the dishes really let the freshness of the ingredients speak for themselves, and I liked how everything was simply prepared, with nothing drowned in any sauces. We stuffed ourselves silly, but then out came the glorious baked alaska which was flambed right at the table for us by our waiter. It smelled of smores as the flames caramelized the meringue topping. It was the perfect end to a perfect meal. I was more than happy to pay for such a wonderful experience, and honestly could not have asked for better service.
Real classy.... Lovely setting, terrific food, professional, unobtrusive but friendly service. Arrived here jetlagged and somewhat homesick, looking for a table for one at the end of a long stagger round the Galleria. Solitary dining can be a bleak experience, but The Oceanaire made me feel right at home and put me on my feet again. The best experience I had in a week in Houston.
