“like the reasonable portions and the fact that they have more than just the regular "gringo" combination plates like most of the chain restaurants.”
Twice a Winner. We've been here twice; once on a Friday night, and once on a Sunday afternoon. On both visits, we found the food and service to be very good and consistent. I had the shrimp nachos on both visits, and I loved them. My fiancee tried the cheese enchiladas on one visit, and beef fajitas on the next visit, and she loved them both. They have outlasted many of the other Tex-Mex restaurants that have come and gone in the Nasa Bay area, so that should tell you something as well.
Great Food. I've been going there since they opened and it is always great. The free queso is a nice touch. I like the reasonable portions and the fact that they have more than just the regular "gringo" combination plates like most of the chain restaurants. Poblano peppers and grilled jalepenos are yours for the asking!!
RudeOwner,BadService,SubPar food.
I've gone to Mom Alone a few times with folks from work, as getting to Mamacitas is difficult due to all the roadworks. It has been on occasion "ok".
My final time in late July 2007. The food was disappointing, the portions were small by any standard and the service was terrible, no refills on coke/tea etc. even when requested. Everyone in my party was disappointed. Upon complaint to the owner while paying, I requested that I shouldnt pay for the ice-T. The owner objected rudely, and discussed me and my complaint in spanish right in front of me. I understand enough spanish to be dangerous and found what they were saying highly insulting.
This restaurant is off my list, but frankly, its never been on it. There are so many better tex-mex places in Clearlake (Lupe's $$$, Los Ramirez $), these guys should be put out of business.
Family-run Clear Lake Mexican restaurant stands out with slightly more upscale decor and a classy, varied menu..
In Short
With toned down décor and a conversation-friendly atmosphere uncommon in many Houston Tex-Mex dining rooms, owner Cesar Davila (formerly of nearby Mamacita's) welcomes regulars for authentic flavors and frozen 'ritas. The menu features flavorful favorites like fajitas, tacos, gooey quesadillas, enchiladas, burritos and combo plates. Other standouts include chile relleno, carnitas, charbroiled quail and 4-person grilled platters with shrimp and mixed meats. A separate bar and smoking section toward the back of the long dining room provide for ample seating.
