It's Chain restaurant food. I've been to Kona grill for happy hour and dinner and to be frank, the food does nothing for me. It's all about quantity and not about quality and that's often the case when it's happy hour food, but I would expect more of the regular restaurant offerings. The happy hour scene is a good one - there's a large patio and plenty of people to make a lively happy hour atmosphere full of an after-work crowd unwinding after a hard day's work. The happy hour menu is extensive and I've tried a lot of the dishes but the standout is the pizza and the chicken satay. The spicy shrimp is a bit to spicy, the avocado eggrolls a bit too bland. Again, the emphasis is on quantity and for happy hour portions, the dishes are very large - order slowly!! For dinner, we ordered the meatloaf, which my friend raved about, but to me it tasted like a frozen dinner, certainly not as good as what i can get at Whole Foods. Lots of people go here and it's fun to be with a happening happy hour crowd but don't have high expectations for the food or you will be disappointed.
great happy hour, terrible service. I have been going to Kona Grill since they opened, they have very good sushi at low prices and great drink specials during the happy hour, however the service is a shame. The last 3 times I have been there all the different servers were rude and slow. I was there last night and it took him 20 mins to get me a cup of water, no kidding. We asked him to please clean our table because it was wet and we had to ask THREE times before he actually sent somebody who came 15 mins after the last time we asked. The only thing that he brought as soon as we ordered it was the check!! total disappointment! I'm not going back.
great sushi and nice hostess. eating at kona grill was a nice experience for me because the food was very delicious and the taste was very exotic. the service was o.k the bar was filled with people especially on this friday it did seem to be a little bit too loud as a club type, but the food and sushi makes up for everything and the hostess was very appealing and which made me leave with a very good perspective of the restaurant.........................
Just say no!. i had my b day dinner there and there was no reason to leave to the club b/c it already looked like we were in the club. The place is too packed (for nothing special). the drinks were okay. food okay. not a date place, nothing romantic.
Editorial Review. Sleek and stylish, Kona serves fine sushi and Pacific island-influenced dishes and cocktails to young professionals and Galleria shoppers.
Dirty, slow, not up to standard. There are many new restaurants in Houston and this one needs to up its game to stay in the playing field from my perspective. Dirty tables, slow staff, mediocre food. Very disappointing.
Great sushi, try anyhting on the menu!. If you like sushi theirs is great, they have all different types and personally the Las Vegas roll is soooo good! The Kona Pizza is delicious and good to split, so are the Chicken Potstickers. Most anything on the menu is great, my friends and I always like to try something new. The happy hour on the patio has turned into a very popular spot, mostly for the half price drinks and food! It is more of a college aged group that will usually be out on the patio so if you want a quiet experience than this is not the right spot. You should probably dine inside if you want a quiet and personal experience. I have never had a problem with dining here, I had a group of 12 and we were just fine inside. The only drawback is that they do not seperate the check so that could be a problem for some people. It's the placeif you want to eat some great sushi or anything really, but get there early if you want the patio!
Horrible Service/ Worst Management for Restaurant business! Don't expect a nice dinner here!.
I planned a dinner party here for a group of about 10 ppl on Friday night. First off, they don't take reservation if you intend to dine their happy hour. The happy hour only offers at the bar/patio. Ok, fine. So, my friends went there first and got a table in the patio. When I came in later, about 10 minutes after, there was a security infront of the bar/patio section and he didn't let me in. His reason: they've reached max capacity! I told him I have a table waiting for me, my friends were there, but he didnt' care. He said the manager asked him to do so. I waited until someone got out of the bar/patio section for me to get in. I waited for 10 mins...lining up just like lining up to get into a club! There was no waiting list..nada. The line was next to the restrooms..and there were fights infront of the restaurants. The girls who were fighting were young and drunk! It was unbelievable unprofessional! After 10 mins, i got in. My other friends who supposed to meet me up also had to wait in line! They didn't let them in even if I had the table outside waiting. There were too many ppl standing up eating, drinking, getting drunk, ect. I dont see how this can be called a "restaurant"! it's nothing but a club where they serve food. We ordered food but our utensils weren't provided when the food came out. We had to ask for them. Food was nothing special! Drinks were ok! Waitors/waitress were busy but friendly. This part I dont complaint. But the rest, just UNBELIEVABLE UNPROFESSIONAL!!
Would I go here again? DEFINITELY NOT!! This Kona grill "restaurant" should be called a drunken lounge/club instead! You go here to drink, not to have a nice dinner. Don't expect anything..even foodwise..to be restaurant graded.
Terrible customer service. We came here on a week night for a birthday dinner, and as one of my friends sat down to eat, the manager came over and wrongly accused him of being involved in a fight there last week. My friend told the manager he had never been there before and the manager rudely said, I don't care, we're not serving you, get out. On top of that, our waitress never checked on us, and then wondered why she didn't get 20% gratuity. It was the most shocking restaurant experience I have ever been through, and I would never go there again.
Make a reservations or be prepared to sit in the bar and have a drink.. This place was unusually loud and packed when my husband and I went there on a week night. We were offered to sit on the outer rim of the restaurant where you might as well be in the mall. This didn't really appeal to me or offer much ambience so we elected to sit in the bar for a drink and wait for a better table. What we got wasn't really a much better table since it was almost in the mall but a little better situated in a booth. Anyway, I am not sure if I will rush back there. The food was pretty good and I ordered something Asian and spicy but I couldn't tell you now what it was. All I know is that we really didn't complain about the food so I guess it was pretty good.I do however recall that our server was very nice and told us what to order when we asked. We aren't sushi lovers so we just ordered off of the regular menu and it was pretty good!
Best happy hour in town. I have been here for regular dinner (which is great) and a few times for thier happy hour, which is the most amazing thing in town! The only drawback is that you have to sit in the bar to recieve the prices, but now that it is nice, it is fun to sit on the outdoor patio. Every appetizer is half price (and full portion) and the drinks are cheap. The food here is great- highly recommended. I haven't been back yet, but they also do a reverse happy hour which I think starts at 9, which also looks like fun. Can't wait to return!
