It's Chain restaurant food. I've been to Kona grill for happy hour and dinner and to be frank, the food does nothing for me. It's all about quantity and not about quality and that's often the case when it's happy hour food, but I would expect more of the regular restaurant offerings. The happy hour scene is a good one - there's a large patio and plenty of people to make a lively happy hour atmosphere full of an after-work crowd unwinding after a hard day's work. The happy hour menu is extensive and I've tried a lot of the dishes but the standout is the pizza and the chicken satay. The spicy shrimp is a bit to spicy, the avocado eggrolls a bit too bland. Again, the emphasis is on quantity and for happy hour portions, the dishes are very large - order slowly!! For dinner, we ordered the meatloaf, which my friend raved about, but to me it tasted like a frozen dinner, certainly not as good as what i can get at Whole Foods. Lots of people go here and it's fun to be with a happening happy hour crowd but don't have high expectations for the food or you will be disappointed.

It's okay... I'm not a really a very judgmental person. I would try the place more than ones to see if the way how I feel towards the place will change, but apparently, it did not. We went to Kona Grill three times already and none of those visits made me want to come back again and eat their food. The food was okay and the service was okay. I guess, that's all I can say....

But hey! they have cheap drinks especially for happy hours. so you might want to consider that... (:

Packed with Young People. If you are staying at the Westin and are bored, check this place out.I've never seen a mall's restaurant packed on a Thursday night after 9:00 PM. I'm not sure if these were mall workers friends or what. It had an atmosphere kind of like a cantina...people were having a good time.

Interesting Fusion Restaurant with great sushi.. Well as usual city search has dropped the ball with the cuisine category. This is not an American(traditional) restaurant. It is an Asian Fusion restaurant, with American and Italian influences. First of all the service is always exceptional here, and the wait staff generally has a good knowledge of the sushi bar and what is fresh and what each sushi chefs specialty is. The decor at this particularly location is nothing all that special, but it is decorated nicely and the atmosphere is intimate. It is very low lit and an excellent place for a date. The sushi is really good here, primarily because the cuts of fish they use are most excellent. The entree selections are very unusual. They are a combination of Asian flavors with Latin American elements and European elements. For example one of the dishes that I really enjoy is the Big Island Meatloaf. It is an Italian Sausage Meatloaf with mushroom ragu with white cheddar mashed potatoes and wok seared tossed vegetables. Also another great menu item on the lighter side both food wise and wallet wise is the Roasted Asparagus Salad. The dressing is excellent. This is not the best restaurant in Houston, but it does have an intimate feel, and if you are after Sushi its as good as any place. The one thing this restaurant does provide is a combination of flavors that you can't find anywhere else. If you can't decide where you want to go, you should give this place a try.

Great Happy Hour!. As a young professional, this is a great place to chit-chat with friends and company during happy hour without busting your wallet. I always see attractive people in the crowd having a good time like myself. I've tried everything off the happy hour menu and would recommend the pizzas (spicy barbeque chicken and goat cheese/mushroom are my 2 fav), potstickers, and the calamari. Sushi are ok when you have a hankering for one, I always order the Atlantic rolls. I'd bring friends and family from out of town here during breaks from shopping. Everyone loves it here! I'm not sure what all the crying is about from other bad reviews.

As for the regular menu, they are pretty popular due to their exotic sauces influenced from Hawaii and Asia. Just look at the menu from their website and you'll see what I mean. I take my clients here for lunch because of the variety the menu has to offer; it is sure to please anyone's taste buds. I tend to order their Sweet-Chili Glazed Salmon Salad that comes with a delicious sesame-soy dressing. Other favorites of mine is their filet and macadamia chicken.

Food service is actually good during lunch and dinner hours, I'm in and out in less than an hour. I will agree that their happy hour service can improve, but when you're having a good time, what's the rush?

FOOD BORNE ILLNESS(BAD MANAGEMENT). I visited The Kona Grill in the Galleria around 9:15pm on June 28th. I ordered Sushi it was called the The California Roll. The next morning around 7am I developed unusual stomach pains and uncomfortable cramps. Then and hour later I had STOMACH PROBLEMS through out the morning and then around noon I was throwing up small white rice pellets, exactly what was in the sushi.

I started getting weak and I tried to eat and drink liquids nothing stayed down in my system, I THREW everything back up. I was becoming more and more dehydrated so I turned myself over to the LBJ Hospital. I barely fainted at the admission counter. Later that night the Doctors had me on fluids and did tests and diagnosed me with some type of stomach virus I caught from eating The sushi.

On July 1st I called up the Resturant and all the manager did was defend his establishment.

Proper attire required. I have to say that after dining there on a Sunday afternoon just like the other guy, I have to say WAY TO GO Kona! I have been dining there off and on for almost 2 years and I applaud the Managers for turning down guest NOT properly dressed. I am a man who cant stand seeing guys in food areas wearing sleeveless shirts. I mean come on, where do you think your at??? The gym?? Who wants to see a guy with hairy underarms, or a mans chest hanging out his shirt? That stuff belongs in a gym and most gyms now adays wont even let you wear that. The food is good and the happy hour is busy. For those complaining about the service in the bar area try the dining room. There may not be happy hour specials but the service has been nearly always good or better and the waiting for a table only happens on the weekends. I have read all the reviews and have noticed that most were written months ago. I have been a loyal fan and will continue eating there!

The guy with the Celtics Jersey. Absolutely hilarious. It was completely appropriate for them to "shun" you from eating there. Recently I have seen some low life people go in there during happy hour and such. One way to pull them out of there and raise the restaurants' value (In the middle of the Galleria) was to keep people - like you, I dont' care how much money you make - from thinking it's ok to go into a restaurant wearing that inappropriate stuff. I hope Del Frisco's learns better than to allow that stuff to happen at their restaurant.

Was humilated by management worst resterant ive ever been to Terriable. Sleek and stylish, Kona serves fine sushi and Pacific island-influenced dishes and cocktails to young professionals and Galleria shoppers....... Hardly i was at the galleria doing some shopping with a bussiness assosiate and after a long day of shopping we headed to the Kona Grill to have a nice coctail before heading to the apple store to buy my new labtop. It was 2:00 in the afternoon on a sunday and since i had on a celtics jersy (i wore for good luck game 7) they wouldnt serve me. If it was 8pm on a saturday i would have understood but the lady was very rude. I never like to be looked down or be told that im not dressed good enuf. I felt humiliated and was very upset with the treatment and service of this resterant. If i could i wouldnt even give it a star i never got a drink just a nasty look and a point to the door. I do recomend Del Frisco's next door best new steak house in Houston.

Horrible service. Don't Go. The food is very average and ,as others mentioned, the service is dismal. For what you pay, you'll be disappointed.

Great Happy Hour. They have 2 happy hours; one when people usually get off of work, and a reverse happy hour at 9:00. Everything is very, very reasonably priced during happy hour and everything is delicious. The only downfall is that the bar and outdoor patio is packed during happy hour and it's hard to get a table. Also during happy hour, service is poor because there are so many people getting cheap food.

I wouldn't really come here outside of happy hour. If I could get decent food for half the price, I wouldn't go there at another time to pay full price.
