Editorial Review for Catalan Food & Wine – by Joshua Hinsdale
The Scene
The duo behind Ibiza carry over creative menu pairings and accessible wines to Catalan. Dark cherry woods and stained cement enliven the mod dining room while hand-painted glass designs and chandeliers hang from the ceiling, adding a touch of whimsy. An occasional roaring flash of flames draws attention to the bustling open kitchen along the back wall. A brick wall and ceiling, in-set with hundreds of wine bottles creates a cozy and romantic alcove on the side farthest from the entrance.
The Food
With a menu inspired by Spain's Catalonia region, expect Chef Chris Shepherd to provide Spanish-based cuisine with a modern touch, in both small and large plates. Top choices include crisp pork belly with cane syrup, foie gras bonbons and braised lamb stuffed with peppers. Soups (available in shots), salads, inventive seafood entrees and pressed sandwiches round out the menu. For dessert, try the peanut butter and chocolate crisps served with vanilla ice cream.

I've been to Catalan several times and the first couple of times everything was great. I've been a couple more times after that and the food was just good. I think it depends on what you order. The steak I hear is execellent but I don't eat beef. It's not an elite Houston restaurant but a good place to go if your looking for good food and an energetic atmosphere.
Pros: If your looking for trendy and energetic it's got it. The wine
Cons: Some food items are excellent and others are just ok.

My experiance at catalan was amazing, the chef is so friendly everything he does with food is awesome from the garlic grilled shrimp to the foie gras bon bons( trust me we had tons of small plates), the braised rabbit pie was to die for. Not to mention the wine list is well put together we had an amazing bottle of syrah that was reasonably priced. And their homemade desserts were fabulous, the whole ambiance is very romantic. I will definately be returning. Totally a place to go for great food dessert and wine. Staff is a little stiff, loosin up guys....
