This is about the healthiest Chinese food that you are going to get in Houston. Everything is vegan but we are not vegan nor vegetarians, still it is really good. Everything is fresh and if you do the weekday lunch buffet, it is very reasonable for all you can eat.
Citysearch Editorial Review – Here in cooked-cattle country, Pepper Tree serves as safe haven for Houston’s vegetarians and vegans. The restaurant’s spotless interior maintains a library level of quiet as lone diners and ladies-who-lunch arrive seeking respite and silken tofu with peanut sauce. The pan-Asian lunch buffet features 18 hot dishes, a salad bar, two soups and a handful of vegan desserts. The rotating selection includes crispy fried tofu balls, vegetable lo mein, eggplant with basil sauce and vegan curry beef. While not all the menu items are spectacular, Pepper Tree is well-loved for offering a variety rarely available to vegetarians for whom the plat du jour is often just a salad.
MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD TO EAT HERE – This has to be the #1 vegan place in the city. I am addicted to their buffet because of the wide range of choices. The hot and sour soup is a well-balanced flavor experience.. I especially love the fresh tofu and sweet kim chee. On Sundays, the sushi offerings will delight the palate--especially when you consider that no animal products are included. The fried bananas and sesame and bean treats are to die for and the light delicate flavors of the agar 'jello' are always a surprise--pineapple, tea, coffee. The owners are dedicated to healthy, tasty cuisine and are quite warm and welcoming. You can feel perfectly comfortable here! Pepper Tree also has the BEST water of any restaurant I've been to--it's triple filtered--and it's always constantly flowing. I cannot get enough of this water!
Just okay – I was kind of taken back by the 11.99 price of the weekend buffet. It did have a wide selection of vegetarian food but much of it had sat under the heat lamp for a while. Some of the things were wonderful. Some were okay.
The restaurant was spotless which is a big plus.
I will try it again and order items off the menu next time rather than just doing the buffet.
I am a meat eater and found the true veg items more appetizing than the fake meat times.
Loved it! – I went to this restaurant awhile back and loved the experience. Food was wonderful, and they really lived up to their name--Veggie Cuisine. A couple small set backs include that the restaurant was quite small, and the buffet food selection was fairly limited, and thus I think they overcharged alittle bit. However, the tidy astomphere and the taste of the food made up for it. Whether you're a vegetarien or not, this restaurant defintily deserves a try!
