This is the worst BBQ I have ever had. We went here a few weeks ago we were the only customers there my husband and I. The meat we were served brisket tasted like it had sat around all day and then it was warmed up for us it was probably from the day before. Just the worst place to eat never again.
NO IMPROVEMENT!!!!! BBQ is mediocre the balance is HORRIBLE!! SLOOOOOOW Service.
I gave Vergies another chance to improve from the first visit.... NOTHING CHANGED. Strike it off you list, it's not worth the time. This comes from a BBQ nut who has eaten at over 125 BBQ spots all over Texas and few dozen more outside the great state. I now remember where I tasted this sauce, it's identical to "Baby Ray's" sauce....95% sugar.
I finally got a chance to get to Virgie's on a day they were open. Don't pay any attention to the open Wed-Sat sign. They open and close when they want to. Virgie's is definately a BBQ JOINT and doesn't deserve to be called anything more. Forget the dumpyness of the place, I was there for BBQ. Brisket: I received 2 slides of the lean side and three slices of the fatty side, the lean meat was very good, but I only had a couple of bites of it. It was served a bit cold. Nice smoke ring and good crust. Try it WITHOUT the sauce; the sauce is like licking sugar, horrible!!! Ribs: Good and meaty, a little too fatty (even for ribs); nice smoke flavor. Potato Salad: Mashed potatoes with mayo, no noticeable onion or pickle; very BLAND. "Baked Beans": No expense was spared in opening this can and pouring it into bowl WITHOUT any other seasoning. VanCamps did a great job...NOT. They should at least try Bush's Beans. Green Beans: same as "Baked Beans" BLAND nothing added. Cole Slaw: Best of the sides, but nothing to write home about. No condiments available in the restaurant, only what's given in your Styrofoam box (yes, the "eat in" is service in to go boxes). No Jalape?o?s, two pieces of onion (not slices, PIECES), a two ounce cup of sauce, four pickles, and two slices of bread. For nine bucks, I'll be going back to my regulars like, Houston BBQ Company, Pappas, Lyndon's, and the rest. I think maybe truck driving was Adrian's real calling, and he should leave the BBQing to back yard parties.
Took forever to get the food!!! Better have plenty of time if you're going over you lunch hour!!!
I love this BBQ brisket so much, I am going to marry it.. The best BBQ we've found in Houston! The ranking by Texas Monthly as one of the 50 Best BBQ Joints in TX got us here for the first time. Tried the ribs, brisket, chopped beef and chicken breast. ALL delicious. Didn't even need the BBQ sauce I ordered on the side, but it was good too. All the meats were tender with that perfect crustiness on the outside, an incredible smoked taste, and they put a lot of meat on your plate. The owner, Adrian, brought our food to the table and was great to talk to. He smokes the meat himself every day the restaurant is open....Wednesday-Saturday. We hear his wife's cake is fantastic, but they were out today. We'll DEFINITELY be going back often. The hours are 11am-6:30pm, so don't go late! I'm still licking my fingers....really!
