Houston >Vietnam Restaurant
“Great little location with good food in the Heights.”
“TERRIBLE SERVICE but great food!”
“extensive vietnamese menu (including even pedestrian chinese items) and a bo luc lac that rivals (or even bests) even that of the venerable mai's!”
“tend to think people review things more often when they are dissatisfied rather than satisfied, so that's why I'm relaying my great thoughts of this place.”
“The price is awesome and the foo.”
“Service has been slow in the past, but the food was worth the time.”
Horrible Service..Stay Away. I ate here last nite 5/10/2011 and the service was just horrible. This was my first and last time to go here. The food was pretty good but when the wait staff just doesnt care...messy..spill things all over our table and onto my friends...jerking and grabbing things off the table..and no refills of drink...stay far away!
mixed plate. I have to agree with some of the other reviewers. I eat here all the time and the waitstaff just does not seem to give a f&@*k. I love some of their food and the lunch specials are good, but the service is blah. There have been a good waiter or two here and there but they don't seem to last. And when I have had a waiter so oblivious that I could not get to take my $ so I could go back to work I went to the owner and he wouldn't check me out either. I mean come on you own the place you can open the drawer and give me my change. I guess my review is saying the food ranges from Ok to good but just don't expect good service.
CROOKS. Beware, Beware, Beware. These people are crooks, or at least some of the waiters are crooks. Whatever you do, DON’T GIVE THEM YOUR DEBIT CARD! I was a victim of identity theft there and I know it was this restaurant because it was the only place I used my debit card and someone at the restaurant skimmed my card and then used my information at four different places around the 59 and Bellaire Blvd area of town. When I contacted these businesses, they all remembered two Vietnamese guys purchasing items with my information. Guess what? After talking with the police, I found out there have been four other customers were also victims of identity theft after eating at Vietnam Restaurant on 19th street. I am telling everyone I know to NOT eat at this place. They have crooks working here. The police are investigating and I hope they get caught soon. Don’t eat here and please pass on this information to everyone you know. This place is a scam and you will be the victim of identity theft if you use a debit card here! Don’t use any card if you want to be safe. Better yet, don’t give them business. Teach them that we will not tolerate restaurants that have crooks working for them.
Withdrawing my business. I have been attending this restaurant since they were downtown, a much smaller place. I have followed the to their new location. Unfortunately, the service has been deteriorating. With the exception of one of the waiters, we feel almost unwelcome every time we go (weekly or twice a week). The waiters seem aggressive, a group with a pack mentality, a "them vs. the customer". The exception has been Chris - and we do take the time to know our waiters. If it is true the food has been fairly good, unfortunately, the restaurant experience is much about the service too. We felt so uneasy that we were afraid the waiters were going to "alter" our food. Finally, last week, after another very uncomfortable experience, we have decided to VOTE with our money by withdrawing our business. I feel strongly enough that I am writing this comment.
Past Loyal Customer.
I have been dining in and having food delivered from this restaurant weekly for months. The food has been for the most part, consistently good. However, I will no longer be a customer.
I was told that I will no longer be delivered to even though I order on a weekly basis because on the last delivery the driver got "lost". Apparently he sold the manager that I am just too far and that was the reason it took over an hour and a half for my food to arrive. This week I called and they informed me that their delivery area had changed and because I am a street outside their area, they cannot deliver to me. This was rationalized by saying my food would somehow be cold when they delivered it even though this was never a problem with a competent driver before. I even talked to the manager who had previously told me that would not be a problem.
Service has been slow in the past, but the food was worth the time. Now that customer service and appreciation for customer loyalty apparently are no longer a quality they have in addition to the slow service this changes things. I will no longer be frequenting the restaurant and caution others to not do the same.
Vietnamese in the Heights.
A little private celebration for Lunar New Year led me to Vietnam. Someplace I've been wanting to try but continually drive past - even though it fits all my 'shady business' looks. I was almost disappointed to discover the inside so clean and trendy.
The service was a little lacking. Seating a single gal in the middle of the restaurant is never good practice. Then it took forever to get someone to stop flirting with me and just place an order. 2nd disappointment was that they don't offer lunch specials on weekends - or 1/2 portions. After my order I also heard the staff blasting a customer behind their back for changing their mind about wanting to eat in or take out.
Nonetheless, the Lemongrass Tofu knocked it outta the park. I can overlook everything else if you just keep me distracted with that delicious crispiness.
Great food and service!. Best Bo Lu Lac in town. On The menu it is called Vietnamese Beef. This is a great place in the Heights with a simple name yet spectacular food! Highly reccomended to anyone in Houston who is looking for a great Vietnamese meal. Service was great!
My dinner was horrible.
my husband and i ate there last week. he ordered rice with roasted pork, turned out, he got himself a plate of pork fried rice with extra oil on the side or in the plate. i ordered shrimp, chicken, and mushroom cooked in claypot. turned out i got myself a claypot (this site won't let me use the word "claypot" seperately) full of cilantro, green onion, and oil mixed with soy sauce over rice. my shrimp? if you call 6 mini quarter inch baby shrimp, shrimp! my mushrooms? 3 canned mushrooms cut in quarters. my chicken? it was there but not enough to cover the rice. basically, i had a cold claypot with soy sauce and rice with lots and lots of cilantro and green onion, and to make sure my soy sauce rice was nice and shinning, the chef added extra oil.
i should have given my feedback to the manager on duty, she seemed like she could take it from another unsatisfying customer. but i thought i reserve myself because the couple sitting at the table across from us was about to complain about their plate of something chicken. so do yourself a favor if you're going to Vietnam Restaurant, don't order the two items above. Please do pay $6.50 for a bowl of pho, i'm sure it's much better than what my husband and i had a week ago. if you would drive few more miles to downtown or midtown, i promise your pho will be $3.50 with less MSG and tastes a lot more authentic than what this restaurant can offer you.
good vietnamese food for sure. We were wary of the looks of the place but were pleasantly surprised when we finally ventured in. Recommended: Chargrilled Pork Spring Rolls, Vietnamese Beef. Yum. Friendly staff, even if it is hard to get their attention after they give you the check and before you pay. Great little location with good food in the Heights. I don't know what the people who say the food is gross are talking about. We go there all the time. and are kind of food snobs, and it is always good. Maybe it was just a bad night for them. I tend to think people review things more often when they are dissatisfied rather than satisfied, so that's why I'm relaying my great thoughts of this place.
Just DON'T Go there.. Disgusting food. Ordered a tofu and vegetable dish. There were maybe 3 pieces of really soggy 1-inch cube pieces of tofu in it, a bunch of undercooked onions, and soggy lettuce. The food was REALLY greasy. The fried rice was ok, but that is all. The outside of the restruant smells like a McDonald's too. This was by far the worst and unhealthiest Vietnamese food I've had.
