Surprisingly Good Chinese Restaurant Inside The Loop.
I always struggle with find a decent Chinese restaurants inside the loop and near Downtown that is reasonably priced but most importantly offer a string and authenticate traditional Chinese flavor. I believe I've found it in 3-6-9.
Their food is tasty and fresh. And for me, being a Chinese myself, the taste is authenticate enough for me. My favorite is their Chicken in Black Bean Sauce which is heavy and spicy in flavor, the way I like it.
For me, 3-6-9 beats Kam's, Hunan Village, Auntie Chang and couple other American-Chinese restaurants in this area.
To Go is Great. Hot,Flavorful, good portions, chicken egg drop soup is outstanding.
MEH!.
OKAY ate there yesterday. By the way. I am probably the biggest fan of Asian food ever.
But the chicken and string beans I ate today was soooo shabby and had this gross tangy after taste following every bite. My best friend had the spicy shredded pork and couldn't get through half of his plate.
I will say though, I enjoyed their wonton soup. :)
Excellent Food and Service. Very Nice place to eat that really wows you with their food. I asked the waiter for recommendations and they pleasantly surprised me with their person favorite item. They take pride in their food and really make you feel welcome... I continue to go to this eatery weekly and I tell all my friends
Best Hot&Sour soup in Houston. I love this place. I work nearby and have eaten there once a week (or more) for almost 5 years. They don't even take my order anymore check first if I want "my regular" and know right what it is. Very friendly staff and the best Tso's and Orange Chicken. Cashew Chicken is good too and the Special Lo Mein is delicious as well as the Crab Puffs. Try the Garlic Chicken or Tangy Spicey Beef too. Even Ken Hoffman agrees their H&S Soup is the best in Houston!! Food is always hot, fresh and fast. I prefer to Dine-in, as Take-out anywhere is just never quite the same and here is no exception. But the take out is pretty good too. Very good prices as well, especially for lunch.
Only the General.
I love their General's, it has jalapeno's in it. But the female as mentioned in other reviews is spot on, very blunt and can come off rude. I work downtown, so driving over here is a bit out of my way. When I call in a order for pickup, and there is no one inside, i'd expect it to be about ready by the time I get there since I wait a while before leaving.
Apparently they didn't believe the order was real. They waited until we showed up before starting. Needless to say I was late getting back to work. I haven't been back since.
Their General's is very very good. Probably one of the best in Houston.
Best egg drop soup!!!. This place has the best egg drop soup ever. It offers really great food and great service in a really nice atmosphere, for a very reasonable price. Definitely my favorite. I go at least once a week.
RUDE. they are rude here i ordered food and the delivery driver didn't bring the correct order and when i told him he started yelling at me. The food was cold and greasy
Beware the takeout!.
I stopped by one Saturday afternoon for a quick bite while running errands. Had the spring rolls. Delicious and great spicy sauce!!
Then I ordered two more to take to my Mom to-go. I raved about them. When she ate them there were no shrimp in any of the rolls, wilted cabbage, and no sauce.
Cheaters!!
Dirty food and rude female manager/owner. Ever since I started college, I have been going to this place for a couple of years for lunch. I thought it had pretty decent oriental food (which would be a complement being that I am Asian). One day at the beginning of the year, we came here for lunch and my boyfriend found a strand of hair (armpit hair?) in his soup. The waiter was nice enough to get him a new cup of soup. From then one he didn't want to come back. But today, I persuaded him that it was fine and that we should have lunch there today. Unfortunately, I was wrong. I was eating my broccoli and my last one had a cocoon with a larvae inside. I looked closely and I can seen the woven details of the cocoon and the segments on the larvae. We told the waiter and he took it to the back. He came back and apologized for it. Of course we found out that they don't wash their vegetables and just steam it. But that wasn't even the problem. The female Chinese manager/owner didn't even come over and apologize. I walked up to her and asked her what she thought about the situation. She glared at me and told me, rudely, it was rice. Hello, I am Asian and I know what cooked rice looked like and I am a biologist so I know what a cocoon and larvae looks like. I told her it was definitely a cocoon with a larvae. She exhaled in frustration, shook her head, punched in the numbers on the calculator very hard, and said she will give me a couple of dollars off. So I agree mnbecker, she is rude and she always had seemed rude when I came there. But the waiter was very attentive and nice so we still gave him a good tip. Well, that's it for me. I'm not coming back. She just lost herself a couple of frequent customers and maybe more.
