“had a nice meal at a pretty good price.”
Ignore the Long Line at 6 AM...and the Donkey on the Sign.
I have a friend who lives in a newly-constructed large, studio in the hood. For two years, I was afraid to eat at this place, because there is a donkey on the sign. This side of East Downtown has not converted yet, and that's a good thing because of this free-standing, shabby Taco landmark.
Early every morning, there is a line out the door...mostly of a variety of men. I always wondered, "Don't these men have wives or girlfriends making them breakfast?" After eating the variety of tacos wrapped in foil here, I wouldn't be surprised if the cooks have received proposals.
One morning, I ordered half a dozen for my friend and I to sample. The chorizo with slighltly crisped potato was my favorite. The barbacoa one could convert a vegan and required extra napkins. Don't drive while eating these, you might be incredibly distracted by your tongue or spill something on your suit.
Tip: The cheese is extra.
the best resturaunt in houston.
im tha daughter of the owner and the place is grate but look they dont treat no one diffrent cause of their race everybody is equal ok just to let yall know they probably sound like their mad or something but they have been workin since 4:00 am its so hard when you have to leave your children home to make money for food and bills so at least appreciate more ok .
-thank you =)
nuevos amigos. I tried this place for the first time today. The tortillas were fresh, and the eggs were fluffy. I had a nice meal at a pretty good price. The clients and location make me fear for my life, which is a drawback. But if you can overlook that, you're in for a treat.
Great food, sad customer service. The food is fantastic. I go in regularly but the honestly I've been pretty offended by the staff. There are a couple of ladies on the line and basically they overcharge me every single day I assume because I'm white. I order egg tacos (B) but get charged for meat tacos (C) 75% of the time that I go in. Literally today one lady wrote "B" on my bag, crossed it out and wrote "C" called me a "Gringo" to another girl on the line and they shared a laugh. I don't mind paying $.50 more but come on, there's no need for that. I'm a good customer and I would hope that would earn me a bit of respect.
East end breakfast spot for cheap and satisfying tacos with home-cooked taste..
In Short
This family-run taco stand on the fringes of downtown continues to build buzz with its hunger-busting breakfast tacos. Ringing in at around a dollar, the huge, handmade tortillas are packed with any manner of fresh-cooked fillings (like the favored potato and egg), ultimately qualifying these two-handers as burritos rather than tacos. For lunch, sample other Mexican favorites like chicken with mole. If you're not taking your tacos to go, there are a few picnic tables on the covered patio.
Great tacos. If you are looking for homemade mexican food this is the closest you will get. Fresh homemade flour tortillas made in front of you. I highly recommend the breakfast tacos. Very reasonably priced. Parking is limited and the line is usually long, but it goes by fast. The service is great as well.
