“I'm not normally a huge fan of this type of food or restaurant, but Bamboo House really did impress me.”
“It has friendly staff but slow.”
Good, limited, overpriced small portions. good clean resturant with friendly staff. hope the food improves. Portions are a little bland, small and overpriced. no lunch menu.
Great Lunch Spot (To-Go Please). I work across the street from the place and today was the first time I have ever order from there. A co-worker told me about this placed, and as always love to try new places to eat. I order the Monk's Delight. WOW it was good!!! The tofu had a great consistancy and the veggies were crispy. The Green Tea tasted and looked like green tea. At other asian cusines I always get watered down versions of green tea. The staff is wonderful from the phone order to the pickup. The staff is humble and the area is clean. If I didn't have to go back to work I would have stayed there. I will be going back every Friday, just to try something new. I'm kinda tired of Subway. I am glad that my co-worked told me about this place.
OK, not worth going back.... A friends sister said it was great, well I say its not. Four of us went to try it out on a week night. The portion size is smaller then most for dinner, and the food is not as flavorful as I would like to see. We had a shrimp with nuts that was decent but had a good onion sauce that I put on my rice which saved me. The general (they left out the sao in the name) chicken was very bland and the size of the chicken pieces were smaller then chicken nuggets. The orange beef was the worst, not a hint of orange at all, not that I like that taste, it is just that I would think if you name a dish something it should have some of that flavor. Everything else was normal.
Best Chinese Food Value Inside the Loop.
Pricier than average chinese restaurants, but it's well worth it. Everything I have tried has been fresh (not loaded with MSG) and delicious. This place is such a good value for the quality of food, I am surprised that it isn't packed every night. The location is in an unremarkable strip center, so most people probably assume that it is a run-of-the-mill chinese restaurant. At least that is what I assumed until I read a favorable review in the Houston Press. Try this place, it's excellent.
Here are my recommendations: Won-ton soup (homemade won-tons); Orange Chicken; Thai Curry Chicken.
EXCELLENT!!!. My husband and I have been going to Bamboo for about a year now and we love the place! Our favorite dishes are the Hot Fish, Singapore Noodles, the meat dumplings (fried), their spicy green beans, and the house special fried rice. Their dumpling sauce is the BEST I've tasted anywhere and I love the texture of the dumplings! I'll admit that some dishes we've tried in the past didn't quite suit me, but to each his own. I think I'm addicted to the dishes I listed above! The staff/owners are also very, very nice and we've always received excellent service. Thank you Bamboo!
Good service, good prices. I was a bit skeptical of a resturant in a strip shopping center, but Bamboo is a good find. The salmon eggrolls are really tasty. The service is amiable and friendly, and casual. This is a really good spot for lunch or a casual dinner. I had low expectations coming in, so they didn't have to do much to surpass them. I'll likely pick up for takeout on my way home.
Not to our expectations.
I talked my husband into trying a new restaurant and chose Bamboo House on Waugh St. The decor is minimalistic but pleasant. Immaculately clean which is always a plus. Service was congenial enough but we won't be going back there again.
1. My husband was going to have the pan-fried noodles. When I asked if there would be a reduced charge for the vegetarian version - sans the chicken and shrimp - I was informed ''No. One price fits all.'' Slightly irritated and as a matter of principle, we landed on the less expensive chicken lo-mein minus the chicken which was okay. A little sweet for my taste, but still good. Noodles were a little bit over-cooked.
2. My vermicelli noodle dish with chicken was mediocre - not a whole lot of flavor and the noodles were closer to being mushy. When I requested additional cilantro and mint, I was told there was going to be an upcharge. I was tempted to ask, 'what about the credit for the chicken deleted from the lo-mein?'
3. We also had steamed vegetable dumplings (six pieces) which I thought were a little on the skimpy side in size. The dipping sauce however was excellent. The seaweed salad was also good - crisp and fresh. Not strong points to base a return visit.
Rather than make a fuss, we are not returning. Call us passive aggressive but one should not have to fight over the food WE are paying for. There are much better and more accommodating restaurants to dine and spend our money. Thai Sticks on Montrose just to name one.
A Hidden Gem. The minimalist decor is very elegant and clean. The food is traditional, yet inventive like the Hawaiian fried rice. Everything there is delicious and extremely fresh. The service is personable. I always look forward to eating here.
A Great Little Find!. I'm not normally a huge fan of this type of food or restaurant, but Bamboo House really did impress me. All the food we tried was excellent and reasonably priced. The presentation was great and the atmoshpere/decor impeccable, not dark and gloomy like most Chinese restaurants I've dined at. I'm huge on cleanliness and this place passed the test. This quaint little spot is perfect for grabbing a quiet dinner. I'm recommending it to everyone I know who lives in the area.
Amazing Addition to Houston Dining ... and Lunching.
The location is central and easy-to-get-to; the setting is clean and elegant; the staff are attentive and efficient; the owners are friendly and down-to-earth; but, most importantly, the food is amazing... The shrimp tempura batter is light and perfectly fried; the teriyaki ribeye is deliciously tender, and pairs perfectly with the sushi-lime rice; and to top it off, the red bean and strawberry mochi ice creams are divine.
I love visiting their dining area to experience the ambience and to chat with the friendly crew; but, if I feel like eating in, the food is just as great delivered. Their continued excellence in food and service have definitely won them a loyal customer.
