I ate Chicken Heart - and it was good!. A good friend of mine from Rio de Janeiro took me here as a celebratory meal and I was absolutely amazed by the foods here. I had been to many Brazillian churrascarias in Houston but none truly compare to Nelore. Right off the bat, the fact that real Brazilians were recommending this restaurant was the ultimate clue that I was in for a treat. The service is impeccable and the meats are some of the best I've had around the city. Of course the pao de quejo (the cheese bread) that is served was wondeful, but perhaps the most out there thing that I've ever tried in my life, and which Nelore has, was the CHICKEN HEART.

First of all let me start by saying that the Chicken Heart was as good, if not better, than any of the other meats that this restaurant serves. Second of all, let me state that I can't believe how TINY chicken hearts are. The hearts are essentially skewered onto a metal stick and cooked in the same fashion that the meats are cooked. When they first come around, they look like tiny circular meats and you usually don't know what it is. But the waiter will not hesitate to tell you that it's Chicken Heart - nor will they hesitate in convincing you to eat it. I ate it. When it first goes in your mouth, you are bracing yourself. But it tastes nothing like what you would expect one of the bloodiest muscles in the body to taste like. It actually had as much flavor as the restaurant's meats. The texture was smooth yet the muscle was chewy - call me a chicken Hannibal Lector, or whatever you will, but if you are ever at Nelore and they have the chicken hearts coming around, don't pass it up - if anything just to say that you too ate chicken heart, and it was good!

Oh and a piece of advice -try the Guarana - made from a Brazillian fruit and infused into a soda, this is a great non-alcoholic drink that compliments every bite of every dish. Known for its clarity properties, it will also make you feel more awake.

I was pleasantly surprised!. I have tried many Brazilian churrascarias in Houston and Nelore is by far my favorite. The atmosphere and staff is so welcoming. Nelore has an indoor patio and an upscale dining room both in close proximity to the salad bar. Because the restaurant is small, the service is more personal and slower paced. The meats of course are the best part of the meal. There are about fifteen different kinds of meat including chicken, beef, pork, lamb and shrimp and a full salad bar with traditional Brazilian items such as hearts of palm, Brazilian stroganoff, tubule, cole slaw. Nelore has an extensive wine list, a wide selection of beer and a full bar. I’m definitely going back!

Great Alternative to Fogo. Lovely atomosphere, service is always excellent and the food quite good and more authentic than Fogo. Prices are reasonable for the variety of meats offered. And a big plus in my book is no suburbanites with screaming kids and flip flops which Fogo has become over the last 2 years. Highly recommended!!!!

More pricey than I expected. Excellent service. Quirky.. I give an average rating solely because of the price. Lunch for $30+ a person is bit more than I am used to for this kind of restaurant. Also the meat was not the best, but was good.

For the most part, service was EXCELLENT- never a problem getting skewer service. Also, although the price is double what I used to pay before moving to Houston, the waiters have awesome puffy outfits with jodpers and are very polite and solicitous. The other great thing is the location. As a central Houston elitist, I don't like having to leave my neighborhood for any crappy "F.M." location. So if you hate the suburbs as much as I do, it is worth some premium to stay in the Museum area.

Average Churrascaria...yawn...do better. Nelore is simply average. I mean, if I had a business client or date that I want to impress, I'd go to Fogo de Chao. Its selection and presentation has a wow! factor that Nelore totally lacks. There are romantic talbes and business tables, whereas Nelore has a tight, uncomfortable layout that works well for neither business or romance.

If I want to entertain friends, or families with kids, I'd go to Todai. The churrascaria there offers the same table-side carved meats for a little less, and has a great sushi and seafood buffet that will have everyone smiling. And it's next to the cinema: great Brazilian meats, sushi, seafood...and catch a decent flick.

Nelore, like I said, is average, if you happen to be in Montrose and want little more than a convenient big tab for lots of meat and little else.

good food and lots of it, price not what expected though. Citisearch shows this restaurant as being $21-$30, it was $37.50 per person. Bit of a surprise. But still the food was good, not as good as the other restaurant here in Houston that has the same style of serving food, but pretty good. Being at the exact same price point as the other restaurant in Houston, go to the other.

yummy. Great restaraunt at a superb value compared to Fogo De Chao. I have no complaints of this churrascaria at all!!! Prompt seating, great service, super friendly staff , and last but not least the food. For a unique dining experience you should try Nelore. Guaranteed you will come back for more!

Great food isn't so great if it doesn't make it to your table..... I have been a fan of Nelore, but tonight's experience was lacking in service at the table. I actually left hungry because my repeated requests for pork were to no avail. Eventually no one came at all to serve meat despite a green signal. I believe the waiters just could not understand what I was saying though I was really working at it. Why should I, the customer, have to work so hard to be served? When it came to dessert, the "ice cream with raspberries and blackberries" was melded ice cream (literally flowing liquid) with strawberries and blueberries. Despite considerable hunger, I left anyway. It was a slow night for them, and perhaps that is an explanation, but at $107, it was not an excuse. So, while I generally recommend this restaurant highly, it is also true that it can be a disappointment.
