In Short – By now the churrascaria concept is familiar to Houstonians: eat your fill of skewered meats and give thanks to the gauchos. But Nelore also promises an upscale atmosphere and plenty of menu options. Choose from 11 different meats including USDA filet, sirloin, leg of lamb, baby back ribs, chicken and sausage. The self-serve salad bar offers complementary flavors like Brazilian-style black beans, hearts of palm salad, fried bananas and polenta. The dessert and wine lists are varied.
I was pleasantly surprised!

I have tried many Brazilian churrascarias in Houston and Nelore is by far my favorite. The atmosphere and staff is so welcoming. Nelore has an indoor patio and an upscale dining room both in close proximity to the salad bar. Because the restaurant is small, the service is more personal and slower paced. The meats of course are the best part of the meal. There are about fifteen different kinds of meat including chicken, beef, pork, lamb and shrimp and a full salad bar with traditional Brazilian items such as hearts of palm, Brazilian stroganoff, tubule, cole slaw. Nelore has an extensive wine list, a wide selection of beer and a full bar. I’m definitely going back!
- Pros: Delectable meats, great value of food for price! Quiet.
- Cons: No grilled pineapple.
Great Alternative to Fogo
by nativehoustonian
Lovely atomosphere, service is always excellent and the food quite good and more authentic than Fogo. Prices are reasonable for the variety of meats offered. And a big plus in my book is no suburbanites with screaming kids and flip flops which Fogo has become over the last 2 years. Highly recommended!!!!
- Pros: great food for the money
- Cons: none
More pricey than I expected. Excellent service. Quirky.

I give an average rating solely because of the price. Lunch for $30+ a person is bit more than I am used to for this kind of restaurant. Also the meat was not the best, but was good.
For the most part, service was EXCELLENT- never a problem getting skewer service. Also, although the price is double what I used to pay before moving to Houston, the waiters have awesome puffy outfits with jodpers and are very polite and solicitous. The other great thing is the location. As a central Houston elitist, I don't like having to leave my neighborhood for any crappy "F.M." location. So if you hate the suburbs as much as I do, it is worth some premium to stay in the Museum area.
- Pros: Enjoyable place. Decent location.
- Cons: $$$$ey
