UNFRIENDLY, PHYSICALLY AGRESSIVE STAFF!!!. I used to be a big fan of this place until my last visit there. I showed up with a few friends for a nightcap at around 1:40am, 20 minutes before closing time. We ordered drinks and within 1 minute the lights were on and they were herding people out. A large, ugly, very unintelligent, blonde-haired meathead bouncer walked up to me and told me to chug my beer. I told him that we'd just bought these drinks not more than 1 minute ago. He told me a second time to chug my beer. I asked him why they sold us these drinks if they weren't going to give us a few minutes at least to drink them. He told me to chug my beer again or else he would take it. I told him I wasn't chugging it and to get a manager if he had a problem with it. Then he grabbed my hands, bent back my thumb and put me in some sort of hold that he apparently learned watching WWE when he isn't bouncing at The Tipsy Clover. (I think he also is fond of touching other men.) Then he told one of the rent-a-cops to escort me out of the bar. 2 days later I went to the doctor for x-rays because I thought my thumb was broken. I tried calling and emailing The Tipsy Clover. No one ever returned my calls or emails. I thought about just sending them the medical bill, and I still might. I have no desire to ever go back to this bar again. There are so many other places to go where you won't be physically assaulted by the barstaff. Try The Red Door right next door, the staff there are great! Don't waste your time at The Tipsy Clover.
LOVE THIS PLACE. I absolutely love Tipsy Clover!! The door guy is friendly and always let my friends and I in. We don't know his name but we never have to wait in line =). The bartenders are fast and the music they play is good. I actually think they have better music spinning than some of the clubs around there. the people that go there are very friendly and down to earth. none of those pretentious people u would find at esco or the drake etc.
bald guy needs to go. I've been to this place numerous times and the last time I tried going the bald guy at the door didn't let us in because of god knows what reason. I happened to be with a new set of friends that night which I recommended to this place and the bald guy didn't let us in. My guess was because of the crowd I was with. They were all minorities. Nonetheless apart from the guys up front, this bar is one of my favorites because of the music. Just hope you don't get counted out based on who you're with.
Crowd Control In Full Effect.
Let me start out by saying that the first time I went to this place my friends and I had a great time. We had been rejected from Red door on my female friends birthday on some bulls@*t and the manager(owner?) some bald buy heard our story let us in and even bought us a round of shots. We are all minorities, law students, and good looking, well dressed folks.
I went to Tipsy about two weeks ago with a group of friends all minorities, law students and we were flatly rejected. I was laging behind my friends and as I saw them walk up to the line the bald guy signaled the doorman not to let my friends in after one of my friends (asian dude) had already walked through the door when he was grabbed by the arm and told he could not come in and the rest of us were subsequently rejected after that. The bar was not crowded, there was no line. I am a former bouncer myself back in Arizona so I know the game when I see it. Regrettably, I have been complicit in the same type of behavior at the request of my boss when I was a bouncer. I guess I just expected more from my previous experience there. I would caution minorities (blacks folks especially) not to go, however I dont think they want us there anyways. So heres to Midtown, "Color free since at least '03"
Best. Bar. EVER!. I love this Bar! It might have something to do with the fact that my best friend is a bar tender (AMY), but this bar would be awesome non-the less. The staff, atmoshphere, and social scene are all great. Be careful though, cause if you show up after 12 you might have to wait in line. Still its a great bar!!!! And the girls are HOT!!!!!
great bartenders that know how to pour a drink!. My first time out to the Tipsy Clover was last Saturday. I was welcomed in by a huge Fred Flintstone (Halloween Party night). The place was crowded but comfortable and after a few drinks my friends and I headed outside for a smoke, where we decided a round of shots would be necessary. I headed to the outside bar which happened to be tended by the most beautiful blonde sailor girl I have ever met! She looked like something out of a old school pin-up calendar and poured one of the best shots I have ever had. Not sure if the wedding ring she was wearing was real or just something to fend off men like me, either way I emptied my wallet and gave her all of it, even though the round only cost me $21. Unfortunately, the outside bar is cash only and they have no ATM so I was forced to start a tab at the inside bar. The bartender I chose inside was a cute and very sweet French maid who also poured a great drink! I may have tipped more that night than I actually spent on drinks! By the end of the night my buddies and I were all tipsy and decided to head out, but not before meeting either the manager or the owner, Mike (Buddha), who decided we should have another round of shots outside before leaving. Beautiful bartender (I did not catch her name... something with an A maybe?) poured shots for the manager/owner and us, then introduced us to a group of girls who we ended up going after-hours with later. The Tipsy Clover was an insanely good time and I will definitely be back. It's a laid-back place with a wide variety of music and many, many beautiful girls. Bartenders know how to pour drinks and they are really friendly too, as are the door and security guys and manager. Just be sure to get there early if you want to score a seat on the back patio, and bring plenty of cash if you want the bartender outside to wait on you.
social atmosphere. not a dance club but good place to socialize. average drinks. sometime a bit crowded. way better than the club right next to it, red door.
Really cool, trendy AND relaxed... you don't see that every day. This place is located really close to my favorite mexican food restaurant, so already that's a big plus. And, althought there was a short line at the door last time I went, it's a relatively casual place, but the demographic it seemed to attract was not that of sloppy people at all. The people at the door were very warm and friendly, even though they questioned the authenticity of my ID. When we got in, it didn't take long to get well made drinks (and beer that was very cold, if you like beer). Although there was some drunk girl who seemed to think she needed three feet of empty space around her at all times and was yelling, everyone else was dressed well, relatively good looking, and amicable (not too many smokers). They also have and outdoor patio/porch, but that was crowded (there were plenty of fans outside, so it was more comfortable, and an outdoor bar/beer-girl).
Way too much fun. My friends and I love this hot spot. I miss the couches they once had but the patio has been increasingly more enticing. The guys that hang out there are either hot and harmless, or cute and conceited but the owner, STEVE, is always up for a good time, and makes sure that you do as well. The Dirty Martinis are pretty good, but expect the attractive people to be served first. The crowd is mixed but often you are able to find both a good time and some beautiful people!
Way too crowded!. This was a cool place but unless you want to fight your way to the restroom and take about 15 mins to get from one side of the bar to the other, I'd stay clear. The atmosphere was fun and young but way too crowded for me.
