“strongly DO NOT recommend this place as first, there is no ambience at all!”
“Their almond custard and mango lassi are delicious also.”
“Normally when I visit this area of Hillcroft, I go to Udipe's cafe, for a good dosa, but since I went to the Himalaya, I can't get enough of the place.”
“Food is good but the owner and service sucks a big time.”
“The food is cooked to order, the naan is perfect, the portions are more than ample, the biryani's are awsome in both taste and price.”
Himalaya is nothing fancy from the outside or the inside, but it attracts hard core foodies and chefs because of the delicious fare by chef and owner, Kaiser Lashkari. The goat byrani is a must, but put your trust in the owner, and he will not guide you wrong. And, it's BYOB.

Flavorful & Fresh Indian/Pakistanian Food. Chef Kaiser's food is always flavorful & fresh with high quality ingredients. I <3 the lunch special- where you can get 4 different dishes, rice & naan for around $10.
Rude Owenr and Pathetic Cutsomer
Service.....
WOW...Rude owner and bad service. We went to this place at 8.30 PM on Tuesday night. We were party of two and were not that hungry. So we decided to order just one lamb biryani and share it. The only waiter comes and takes our order and food came in. While we started eating owner came to the table and started shouting at us saying he is loosing money on the table and we should order one more entree !!!! I was so surprised he can yell at us like that. I said we are not that hungry and that is why we ordered only one entree for two. Again he comes back in 5 min screaming at us that he is loosing money. and forces us to order one more entree or lassies. At this I told him this is getting ridiculous, how you will be loosing money when we ordered the food? Then he says it is busy time all the tables are full and I should have been man enough to order one more entree. I never experienced in my life this kind of treatment to the customers from any business. We said enough is enough and left the place without finishing all the food............ Never going to go back again.... Stay away from this place.
just went there last night for the first time, tuesday night at 9:00PM, FULL HOUSE!! order a curry beef, a grill tilapia (forgot what they call it) and white rice. they were so good!!! they dont have fancy set up like india's restaurant on richmond ave., but their food is sure better!! i'm planning to bring my friends there this coming weekend.
Chef Kaiser creates some of the most unique Indian/Pakistani dishes with surprising combinations that tickle every one of your different taste buds. The generous portions make the already affordable restaurant even more budget-friendly. The decor is not much, but the casual ambiance makes you feel as if you are dining at your uncle's house. The best way to experience Himalaya is to let the friendly Chef guide you through the menu and trust his recommendations -- he clearly loves designing a "chef's menu" for the table. I have had a fantastic experience every time, but I admit that not everyone may be comfortable with this -- I have noticed that those who go against his recommendations usually end up with less-than-stellar dining experiences. Also, he definitely does not hold back on the fat or the spices content, so if you favor milder, leaner Indian food his dishes may be a bit "too much." But for those with a sense of adventure, boldness and appetite, you will not only leave the place full and happy but will find yourselves addicted to this place as soon as the food leaves your stomach -- just be sure to have some antiacids handy.
The worst restaurant I have ever been
too. Some of the key points:
- served lamb when we ordered chicken
- the waiter banged the plates on the table instead of laying them properly
- very cold and unpleasant behavior of the waiter and the staff
- the manager actually shouted and made racist comments at us when we notified him of the poor service
- he argued at the top of his voice in front of the customers and staff
- the manager is extremely rude and unpleasant
and top it all up, he actually came out of the restaurant to note our license plate (god knows for what!)
highly discourage anyone planning to go there - can be the lowest point of your day.
if i could, i would have given negative stars to this restaurant.
Rude,Arrogant owner..average food...Over Hyped restaurant. Owner is very rude and unprofessional..Felt i was in a hoodlum's place in Pakistan..He needs mental health help..Food is average..This place is over hyped and not worth your time and money..
Arrogant Staff and Worst food I had in Houston.
Staff and owner of this restaurant is very arrogant, bad mannered and rude. We ordered chicken biryani and the staff told us very arrogantly that "its over.. order something else" then we ordered Goat Biryani and Veg Biryani.. within 5 minutes people next to our table ordered chicken biryani and the same staff took their order.. I was really surprised.. Ignoring that and I was hoping the food will be good.. after 1 hour of waiting time food was on our table that too the taste of food was horrible filled with lots of spices, very very hot and spicy.
Over all this bad experience we had to 15% “tip” which is mandatory here.. Prices are very high here and the environment doesn’t look hygienic.
I would advice never go here.. Houston has far better restaurants than this..
Best Goat!. Best Goat I have ever had. All the food is excellent. Atmosphere needs improvement, but staff and owner are always friendly. Prices can be high unless you order the lunch special. I always have a meal there when in Houston
Enjoyed It!. Very good food and service. Had the Fish Curry and really enjoyed it. My friend had the Lamb Seekh Kabab and thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. I really liked this restaurant and would recommend it to anyone.
Delicious?. Delicious? The samosas have a lot of crust, but the crust is so delicious that it could be all crust, and that would be okay. Meanwhile the filling, once you find it, has a delicate, unusual fennel flavor and the tamarind sauce is the perfect foil. My favorite at Himalaya Restaurant.
