What People Are Saying About Cova Hand Selected Wines

Citysearch
In Short – With a decidedly down-to-earth vibe, the folks at Cova make it easy to spend the day browsing through the well-stocked shelves, with more than 500 selections. Buy the whole bottle or sample by the glass or two-ounce taste. In the evenings, customers order from a menu of small and large tapas (raciones). Cold offerings include organic beef carpaccio and artisanal cheese plate. Braised oxtails with chipotle potato puree; seabass; and New Zealand lamb chops with a savory flan and pressed panini comprise the more substantial entrees. –
Lets try this again

I remember this place when it first opened and it seemed to me that service was a lot more tentative. Over all a good experience, just need to be somewhat patient with the staff. If you enjoy trying new and fun things this is the place to go.
- Pros: Wine list is solid, the food is good
- Cons: Slow service
Fun atmosphere and service
by WineLuva
I enjoy this location much better than the one on Washington. It feels less retail-ish. The service has almost always been good here. I can't say much about the food since I normally eat before I come. Some people say it's too expensive here but what do you expect when you get classiness? Cheap? Nice atmosphere, good wine, and good service do not equal cheap prices. I just wish we had more wine venues in the NW part of Houston. This is a great place if I'm in the area.
- Pros: Great ambiance, selection
- Cons: Sometimes feels like a retail store, but not as bad as Washington location
Overall seemingly good service, but parking a pain

Note: Myself and friends visit many wine venues around town and Cova (on Kirby) is probably one of our favorites. We don't like Cova on Washington that much because it feels more like a retail shop and like C*rkscrew up the road, the bums asking for money gets old. Try to make it to the Kirby location if you can. Comments about Kirby: 1)The atmosphere is very nice. 2) I've only had basic appetizers there, so I can't comment on the food. I've heard some people complain about the service, but I've never actually had a problem. One time it did seem to take a little too much time to get our wine, but it all worked out 'cause the server was very helpful. 3) Parking seems to be the biggest drawback to this place. I hate to pay for valet when the guy is going to park it 5 feet from the front door (so it seems). 4) The location is pretty easy to find and surrounded by lots of other "things-to-do". 5) I've heard others complain about prices, but when I go to a classy place I'm not trying to save a buck, I'm going to enjoy myself. It's not THAT much different than all the other wine bars in Houston on price. If you want cheap, buy the bottle and go home!
Overall, great atmosphere, service and location. Parking is a pain but I sometimes get lucky with Rockstar parking.
- Pros: Location (Kirby), Service, Atmosphere
- Cons: Parking
