“While the drinks were good, they were not worth that much.”
Funky, laid-back and fun. The Flat has a great, funky atmosphere with friendly staff. Great place to meet a few friends for a drink and talk or for a pre-dinner drink. Their pizzas also by the way are really fantastic!
A Great Place to be on Monday Night. Recently went to the Flat and realized that it never disappoints. The place is eclectic in its choice of art and furniture but that adds to the ambiance. The bartenders are very friendly and will make you a mean drink. The space is kind of small but it is what makes it so inviting and relaxing. The owner is frequently walking through the bar talking to everyone and sipping on a few drinks as well. Basically, when you come here you can feel at home just on the setup alone but they spice it up on Mondays with a DJ. The music you hear at the Flat is not the music you will hear frequenting the air waves in H-town, what you will get is some of the best music out there. The DJ seamlessly goes from great hip hop tracks to downtempo to house. What a great time! The lounge feeling makes this place comfortable, the music keeps me moving, and the drinks keep me coming back. If you haven't been to the Flat on Monday . . . shame on you, I mean what else are you going to do to extend your weekend!
Use cash or you'll get ripped off. Somehow, the bartender charged my card twice for 1 round of drinks. I have been calling repeatedly to have to charge reversed but am always told only the owner can do it, and he's never there. Interestingly, the bartender told me it's common to have 2 charges because they hold the amount on your credit card when you give it to them, and then charge your card after you close out. She then proceeded to say that they sometimes forget to release the amount they originally held. Meaning, they charge you twice and you have to call your credit card company to fix it because the Flat won't. If you go here, I suggest you pay cash.
Good drinks, weird credit/debit card system.
I went to The Flat last night to celebrate a friend's 21st and we had a few drinks and they were all pretty good. I paid for the drinks, and I got a receipt saying $44.00 so I was like ok that's fine. Well the next morning I get on my bank account and gues what I found? A charge on my card for $50 then another charge for $25 for a grand total of $75. While the drinks were good, they were not worth that much. I will probably pay in cash if I ever go next time. Good thing I kept the receipt....
edit: So apparently they're machine does this thing where it charges you $50 or more and it is suppose to refund the difference in a couple of days. I suggest bringing cash with you because I saw this charge and freaked out. I frantically called my bank and The Flat. The owner has a message saying that the charge will be removed after a couple of days so I am just having to wait and see.
Good lounge but needs a lesson in honesty. If you don't know already, the flat is a great place to hang and listen to great music, but beware the dishonesty of the bartenders in "surprise" charges to your credit card. My advice? Stick to cash at this place and don't tip...they probably made it of some other guys tab. Also, keep your receipt to call and complain because THEY WILL GIVE YOU THE RUNAROUND when you try to fix the charges. I have nothing against this place except the bartenders because they seem to do this quite frequently and it's sad.
the best kept secret is out!. I write a nightlife newsletter, so I make it my duty to keep the public informed on the good, the bad and the ugly of Houston's after-dark spots. This has always been one of my favorite places and I must say most of the reason is because of the service there. My favorite bartender and beverage expert at the Flat is Chris. He's been there forever and he is part of the attraction on Tuesdays and Thursdays when I usually go in. He knows what I drink, he knows the regulars who go there and is kind of the "conductor" on this party train. He has a great attitude and is very attentive whenever I bring people in. Most of my friends have even gone back on other nights without me and told me he has remembered them and he is the coolest bartender (which I already knew when I took them there to begin with.) The music and atmosphere are unsurpassable too. Chris makes me feel at home there. He makes a great grey goose pear and water too, which I love. Say hi to him when you are in and tell him houston queen of clubs sent you!
DANI THE MOST AMAZING BARTENDER!!!!!!!!!. WOW WOW WOW WOW....GOTTA SAY I'M PICKY ABOUT MY DRINKS...BUT THE 4 DRINKS THAT I ORDERED LAST NIGHT WERE SUBLIME!!!! . DANI IS THE ONLY BARTENDER THAT GOT MY DRINK 100% RIGHT....BE THERE NEXT WEEK FOR SURE...
best bartender in town!!!. Went to the flat last night with 6 friends. It was actually my first time there. The place was packed but still Dani the bartender manage to give us our drinks extremely fast. She made the most amazing frozen mojitos in town. Don't understand why people wrote those bad reviews about the bartender...the hole night she had a smile on her face and was really friendly. Come Back Is A Must!!! ps: the dj rocks too!
Danni the Horrible Bartender. Used to love going here to relax and listen to great music, but the bartender Danni was extremely rude to myself and my friends. When asked how much a drink was, she threw back the money to my friend and said "what does it matter." She was trying more to impress her friends who were sponging off the bar then the actual paying customers. Would never go back again!
Wow .... never again. I went to The Flat last night with some friends. The bartender got my order wrong (he gave my friend and I gimlets instead of vodka sodas). Should have been an easy fix but he copped an attitude and got defensive about the communication error. He then poured only one drink instead of the two I originally ordered and then acted put out because I asked him for the second drink. I then asked to close out my tab and he got testy again and threw my credit card on the counter and wouldn't give me a receipt. When I asked what the total was, he said he didn't charge me anything, which I thought was odd because I was more than willing to pay for my drinks. This morning, I called my credit card company and it turns out he is a liar on top of being a disgrace to the service industry. He took it upon himself to charge me $50. I see in a review below that this is a common practice for The Flat. Spread the word ......
