“The Flat has a great, funky atmosphere with friendly staff.”
“The owner is great, and introduced himself to everyone in the bar.”
“Their pizzas also by the way are really fantastic!”
“great place to chill”
“If you don't know already, the flat is a great place to hang and listen to great music, but beware the dishonesty of the bartenders in "surprise" charges to your credit card.”
“Drinks are affordable and pretentious level is nonexistent.”
great place to chill. Flat is located in a residential area which makes it a well kept secret. The night I went, the DJ played his techno in the corner and there was a small crowd about 20 people inside and 15 out. The outdoor patio has a nice fireplace to just chill and chat. This place has a midtown vibe minus the pretentious crowd/bouncers and 1mile away parking.
Avoid, Avoid, Avoid!!! THE FLAT STEALS YOUR MONEY!!!.
I actually enjoyed The Flat until the next day when I checked my bank account. I had a $22 tab and they charged me for $50!!! Crazy thing is they did the same thing to my friend. I've been trying to call for days to get this figured out and no one has called me back.
TO SUM IT UP: DON'T GO TO THE FLAT UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE RIPPED OFF FOR WEAK DRINKS!
This place obviously does not care about its customers.
A Solid Spot. Some of the best music the city has to offer. If you like mainstream stations, this is not a place for you. Guest D.J.'s weekly spinning House, Down Beat Electronic, Acid Jazz, Funk, R@B, etc. Very eclectic crowd during the week, a little more sheepish on the weekends like any other major city's influx. Great Tapas. Somebody must have slept with the reviewer under me's girlfriend there because he was really hatin.
Good crowd, non Austin/midtown trend maniacs. Good urban crowd at this spot. Most people I talked with live close by as do I. This is in the Montrose area, not midtown, so I can see how someone from a college town like Austin or suburbanite patrons that drive into Midtown could mistake the location. Drinks are affordable and pretentious level is nonexistent. Great place to have a good time with good friends without the trendy crowds.
Great Hideaway in Midtown. My friends and I started out early here with dinner and drinks, the crowd continuously changed, all with hip, young, smart people. The owner is great and the vodka cherry sours are to die for. The lounge type setting is perfect for romantic settings and the music is usually good. It can get pretty crowded but never is there a time when I don't have fun!
Lame place for lame clueless people with spikey yet "professional" hair.. Crowd is ridiculously out of touch and hopelessly lame. These are the people who describe themselves as "young professionals." Read: the most insufferable group of hopeless morons you will ever choke down the latest "it" drink in the presence of. But hey, if you like following the pack like mindless sheep, then slowly cross the street with the rest of the idiots that frequent this insipid cesspool.
Smelly and dank. Staff is out to lunch. Bartender screwed up my drink. The place has painted concrete walls... kind of reminds me of a prison... small with concrete walls painted an ugly yellow. The patio is better but not anywhere as nice as The Social. Nothing interesting about this place. If you are looking for a good lounge experience go to The Social on Yale. Staff is better, it doesn't smell, and the decor is more interesting than 4 tribal items from Pier 1 placed on the walls.
Wow. Cool place, try the frozen mojitos - off the chain! Staff is excellent, set up is artsy. Will bomerang.
Hidden with an underground yet professional feel.. This place was actually quite cool. We almost past the club because it's well hidden. There is a lone light above door man which casts and nice over head shadow. Once you get in, the music is loungy then progresses into a soft house. I was impressed. The drinks were priced well too.
for place for yuppies!. The owner is great, and introduced himself to everyone in the bar. This is definetly a place where the crowd is professional yet young. Atmosphere was extremely enjoyable along with the martinis that came with it. A very romantic bar as well with great lighting, somewhat small space, but if it was larger it might attract a not so hot crowd as it does now! I will defintely be hanging out here a lot more in the future.
