Poetry Bar. I really enjoyed the atmosphere the people were very friendly the drinks were expensive, not like it used to be, it used to be a ten dollar cover charge and free drinks for the first few hrs. Its worth the ten to see some great peotry and to listen to some great djing but if you are looking to spend some money on drinking this is not the place, the bar tendering is very very poor.
Great atmosphere. Great time. I went to the shadow bar on poetry night and I had a wonderful time. The ositive spirit in the room was great. Awesome poetry, tasty drinks, and the dj played stuff I hadn't heard in years.

I never really cared for Downtown Houston, just because of the one way streets the parking charges at night, and because I have a bad sense of direction. (Good thing I now have GPS. ;-)
I heard about this spot through a friend of a friend. Since I love poetry, I decided to check it out. We were running late, but we caught the last ?Poetry Show?. I was a nice crowd. The female DJ was GGGGRRRREEEEAAAATTTT! ? She represented the women of H-town! Much props to her.
The poetry was wonder, it was the original poetry style, not the one that everyone thinks was poetry. We got our drinks quick, we even had a seat close to the stage box. The atmosphere was wonderful. I usually wear my shades when I visit and establishment due to the fact that I don?t care to so a lot of men that do not meet my preference ? it tends to strain the eyes. I must say that I was able to take the shades off because there were a lot of handsome men there (although I wasn?t looking) it?s nice to see something that relaxes the eyes.
The best thing I like about it besides the poetry, it the attitude of the females, there was not ugly looks or anything ? everyone was pretty cool, very classy, and self-assured. (That is how it is supposed to be.)
I didn?t go to the bathroom, because I am not a public user ? so I can?t comment on that.
Now the gratuity charge for using a credit card is a bummer, it reminds me of these foreign gas stations that charge you because their bank charges them and they win off of double charging you. It sort of defeats the purpose of giving your own tip based on quality of service. If I have to pay a gratuity ? then I will pay in cash.
I will be back next Sunday, GET THERE EARLY. I MAY EVEN DO A LITTLE POETRY MYSELF.

kinda surprized at the bad reviews cause this is the place i go to the most. Fridays with $10 covers and either free drinks or $2 drinks for 2 hours. normally great djs that play a variety of r&b and rap from old to new. can be crowded at times but fine if you and your group know how to get your spot. bartenders are very friendly if you know how to be friendly yourself.
Sundays are poetry night and can be just as great as Fridays. Great poets, great host, and great music. get there early enough and there is an open bar. and as they always say, the bigger the tip, the bigger the sip.
tuxedo?. Wow, a lot of hot women here. Its one of those places where if you know someone or have private party you get first entry. I was in the general line,i saw loads of people go in before me, but I still did not wait long. The prices were decent ,well for the beer. It was real crowded in there, if you dont mind being crowded, then this place ok for you. Well depending where you go in it, you'll be shoulder to shoulder, its not like that everywhere inside. The DJ was playing all kinds of music,mainly hip hop, and he only played each song for like 30 seconds to a minute. what the hell is the point of that i dont know. Service was friendly and hot, the whole place was hot. Although they try to keep it a classy joint, which they do well at, their was still two fight theres, that ended very quickly due to the bouncers.
Nice to be back, seems different though. We used to go to shadow all the time. Its a great place, but not quite like it used to be. I hadn't been in a while, me and my friend went there after a disappointment at another club. The bartenders were kinda dead, but I think this will be our regular weekend spot again!
NICE SUNDAY NITE!!. THIS PAST SUNDAY, I VISITED THE SHADOW BAR WITH A FRIEND THAT WON TICKTES FROM MAJIC 102!! I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT, BUT OVERALL, I HAD A NICE EXPERIENCE. WE ARRIVED AT 6:45 PM, BEFORE THE 7:00 PERFORMANCE, IT WAS ALREADY FULL!! COME EARLY FOR A GOOD SEAT!!THE BAR ONLY HAD ONE BARTENDER, WHICH MADE IT A LITTLE SLOW TO GET A DRINK, BUT THE NICE PART, IT WAS A OPEN BAR UNTIL 7:30 PM. I REALLY ENJOYED THE POET'S THAT PERFORMED. THE DJ WAS REALLY GOOD!! THERE WAS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE TO LISTEN TO. THERE WAS POSTITIVE ENERGY THROUGHOUT THE CLUB. THE CROWN WAS NOT TOO YOUNG AND I WOULD RECOMMEND THE SHADOW BAR ON SUNDAY NITES FOR ANYONE THAT ENJOYS POETRY. ON POETRY NITE (SUN.) IT'S COOL TO BRING A DATE OR GO WITH YOUR GIRLS OR BOYS FOR A RELAXING ENVIROMENT FOR THE GROWN AND SE**!
WANT TO HAVE FUN AND DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY. THE DOOR GUYS IS AWSOME.... THE MUSIC IS GOOD KEEP YOU GOING ALL NIGHT LONG... FROM TIME 2 TIMES ITS GET CROWED BUT WHAT CAN YOU SAY.... WHEN YOU WANT TO HAVE FUN THAT?S THE PLACE TO GO?.THE BARTENDER ARE WONDERFUL AND BEAUTIFUL KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK LADIES?..
Great Music... Overcrowded & Hot. Overall, I had a decent time because I was there with a large group of friends. Lessons learned... Ladies, don't wear your nicest shoes, you'll get stepped on all nite, we all walked out with cuts, bruises or ruined shoes. Wear your hair up because you'll sweat even just standing around. Use the restroom at home before you get there, trips to the bathroom are at least a half hour to & from. And don't start a tab because you'll likely be overcharged, pay cash, stick to beer... the mixed drinks are overpriced. Only nice thing to say... the music is great.
One of the few great places downtown. With several places to choose from downtown I must say that Shadowbar is one of the few where I have been several times and not once have I had a bad time. The door guy everyone is complaining about does a great job. The dress code is enforced and they try to keep the teenybopers out. The place does have a $10 covercharge and the drinks are expensive but sometimes its worth it to get some good dancing done. If you are a police officer an official police ID will get you in no wait, no cover. I think that is always good and its great to see this bar appreciate that. The bar is busy but you will get your drink pretty fast, if you are a regular they will waive the $10 covercharge. This is a great place to go hang out and have a good time.
