Editorial Review for Field of Greens – by Andrea Loera

In Short
A casual coffeeshop-like atmosphere encourages lingering while the menu insures that part-time vegetarians and vegans alike will feel right at home. Salads like the guacamole with pico de gallo and tempeh Caesar salad make the perfect lunchtime combo with a bowl of the vegan soup de jour, burger or vegan BBQ sandwich. Main entrees include a seasonal macrobiotic platter, eggplant Parmesan and veggie fajitas. The chef will gladly make any item on the menu vegan.

So, I went to dine at this restaurant after reading about it here, I am a long time (10 yr) vegetarian and was excited about the reviews of it being an organic restaurant. When I walked in I immediately noticed how brightly green it is, ok no problem. I went to the counter to place my order, under the sign that says "order", after looking at the menu board and discussing my options with the girl at the counter, who was very friendly, I decided to order the vegetarian fajitas and a side salad, I think my total was something like $15. I continued to talk to the person behind the counter while my food was being prepared, I asked her where they get their organic produce and she told me, to my surprise, that they do not use organic produce!! I then asked her if anything that I was ordering was organic and she said the tortilla, and the rice. I decided to just sit down and wait for my food to be ready, she brought it out to me and told me to "enjoy". I ate my salad and found that the garlic dressing was too peppery, for it being a garlic dressing they should not overdue it with the pepper. I went on to the fajitas, they where marinated in some tahinni which gave it a good flavor but it was so oily, the fajitas and the peppers on top where drenched in oil, making me wonder what was healthy about that. The beans where dry and flavor less, the only thing that tasted good was the guacamole. I will not be returning to dine here because there are way better places to eat that have vegetarian food that actually has some good seasoning and is reasonably priced.

Food tastes pretty good, even to someone who likes eating meat (I found this place after searching for a Non-Indian restaurant to take vegetarian friends). Everything is fresh and sandwiches have good bread, lettuce and fixings- you don't end up with a stale tasteless roll and limp piece of iceberg here. Fake fish tacos are a favorite. It's overrated as far as being healthy (fried tofu is still fried, as are the yummy french fries you get with the vegi club sandwiches. Since when is vegetarian food is automatically better for you than food with animal protein?) It's a little overpriced. Plenty of parking.

Pros: good food, parking, casual
