Editorial Review for Terlingua Texas Border Cafe – by Andrea Loera
In Short
Crisp, modern Mexican-style décor goes perfectly with a menu that exceeds the local Tex-Mex standard at this upscale casual spot owned by Cyclone Anaya's son. The usual suspects are present on the oversize menu alongside original items like chicken Lajitas with creamy spinach artichoke, Mexican pizza, old-fashioned burger baskets, wraps and comforting Gulf Coast specialties like chicken fried fajita steak, catfish and shrimp. The full bar churns out expert margaritas while the outdoor patio is a lively and festive.

I have been coming here for the past 2 years and it is our favorite local tex-mex place. Although the menu has changed a little since I started going(miss those fried mushrooms), the food has always been fresh and tasty. Even for take-out! Try the fajitas, enchiladas or the tamales. We usually order all three for our family and it is more than plentiful. The service can be a little slow, but it is usually busy so it is understandable.
Pros: good food, drinks and bar
Cons: can get a little crowded

I was looking forward to a reunion with my friends and thought that this would be a good place to meet. Little did we know that we would be treated so rudely! First we were told that happy hour drink prices were only available at the bar and in certain areas of the restaurant. The extremely rude waiter at our table would not hand us menus to order food from or even bring us glasses of water after we asked for them. After literally begging our waiter for the menus, I placed my order and the waiter told me he needed his menu back immediately and refused to allow me to hand it to another member of our party so that she could place her order. After a long wait, the food we received was bland and partially cold. After experiencing further rude behavior from the waitstaff, our party decided to leave. After requesting our bill at least 3 times, we had to wait another hour and a half before he rudely brought it to our table. After paying, and leaing a generous tip, another member of the waitstaff came out and rudely told us that we had left money on the table and handed us another bill with a dollar inside. When I returned the folder to all of the waitstaff standing around the hostess stand, I was told to get out and that I was never to return to the restaurant again. I think the owner needs to rethink the caliber of staff working for him both in the kitchen and as waiters. Incidentally, since our table made up the majority of patrons in the place, I think this speaks volumes why customers are not willing to face the same rude, ill mannered personnel we did that act as the ambassadors of this establishment.
Pros: parking
Cons: waitstaff, food, restricted seating for happy hour prices
